関西で人気を誇っていた「山水館」と「シェラザード」からの主要メンバーによって結成されたバンド「ノヴェラ」のデビュー・アルバム。
当時、英国においてプログレッシヴ・ロックが衰退の翳りを見せ始めていたが、日本では英国の大物バンドから影響を受けたプログレ系バンドが活躍を始めた時期である。

そんな潮流に乗って、このノヴェラはデビュー・アルバムから好セールスを記録、本格派バンドの音を望んでいたファンを驚喜させた。
女性ファンにファッション面で影響を与えるなど、アイドル的要素は確かにあるが、今なおファンから根強い支持を受けていることからも、そのサウンドの確かさが証明されよう。

収録されている楽曲もバラエティーに富んでおり、演奏時間が３分~５分の聴きやすいもち?から１０分を超える大作まであり、非常に楽しめる１枚となっている。
個人的にはストーリー性を多分に含んだ「レティシア」と壮大なプログレ・ナンバーでアルバム・タイトルにもなっている「魅惑劇」が気に入っている。

１人でも多くのプログレ・ファンに体験してもらいたい名盤である。

２００１年に再発された際の２４ビット・リマスター音源を用いた再発盤です。

解説は９１年再発盤の、リーダー平山照継氏のよるセルフ･ライナーが復活しています。
タイトル曲「魅惑劇」のスキャット収録の際のエピソードは、今だと洒落にならなくて
笑えます(笑)。

プログレファンでなくても納得するクオリティーだと思います。幻想的な中にハードさがある。一度はまると抜けられません。アンジーのボーカル、テルのギター、ヨシローのベース、プレイヤーの個性、テクニックも最高です。
