リンチェイ作品としては評価が低く、覚悟してみました。感想は☆4つ。かなりきちんと作られていると思います。相手の大佐も悪人一辺倒ではないし、ジェットだって正義だけでない。未来への迷いや混乱等自国への複雑な感情や答えのない問いかけが伝わってきました。何より殴れば自身も痛いこと、アクションシーンとは人を痛めつけることだと実感させます。近年ハリウッドのスタイリッシュなワイヤー依存作品で消耗されていくリンチェイよりも数倍心に残る佳作です。そして10数年後に 同じ人物が「スピリット」を作る事も感慨深いです。

3.0 out of 5 stars リンチェイの頑張りが、ひしひしと伝わって…, 2004/7/3
全体的に暗い。ストーリーも救いがないし、画面も暗い。
国籍とは何か、なぜ差別が存在するのか、等の問題に
悩み、それをどうやって観客に伝えようかと迷いつつ、
初監督を務めた、リンチェイ自身の心の状態が反映しているのかも。

リンチェイ自身も、自分は監督に向いていないのが
この作品で分かった、と話しています。

でも、気合いが入りまくった若いリンチェイの演技、
殴られても殴られても敵に向かっていく姿勢には、感動します。

たまに見せる笑顔にほっとしたりして。
色々な意味で、心に残る映画でした。

4.0 out of 5 stars ジェット・リー初監督作品, 2002/7/13
リンチェイファンなら言わずと知れた初監督作品がこれ！当時のリンチェイのメッセージ色の濃い作品。
また、初監督というプレッシャーを背追いつつも、一生懸命さが作品に滲みでている。
戦後、アメリカ軍が中国に進駐し・・・諸外国に翻弄され続けながらも強く生き抜く中国の人々。
ちょっと悲しく、でも、若くて元気なリンチェイの姿が楽しめる。

大きな相手に立ち向かうリンチェイの姿は、そのまま列強国に立ち向かおうとする中国の姿であろう。
少林寺がリンチェイの原点であるなら、この作品は映画人としてスタートをきったリンチェイの原点と言えるのではないだろうか。
