アル・クーパーが創設したグループのセカンドアルバムですが、アル自身は、このグループで実験したかった事（本格的なブルーズ演奏）を終えたため、脱退し、デヴィッド・クレイトン・トーマス（来日映像では、ガン・ホルスターに様々なマイクを入れていた）がボーカルで参加。わずか３０分で作曲した「スピニング・ホイール」は瞬く間に大ヒット！ＬＰの最初と最後にエリック・サティのジムノペディをアレンジした曲を配置し、アルバムとしての統一感があった。このＣＤでは、ボーナストラックが付いたため、分かりにくくなりましたが、名曲揃いです。ちなみに、これでエリック・サティを知りました。その意味でも感謝したいアルバムです。あまりにも完成度が高く、この後、苦労するはめになってしまうのです。ブラス・セクションには、ジャズ畑のルー・ソロフなど名人が揃っており、荒削りなシカゴと好対照でした。ちなみに、マイルスは、１９６８年に既にエレクトリック時代に突入しており、このグループから影響を受けた訳では有りません。むしろ、ジミ・ヘンドリックスなどの黒人ミュージシャンからなので、誤解の無いように。このアルバム自体が、ジャズからブルーズ、クラシックまでワイドな音世界を築いている事が大事な点なのです。
　職人の仕事ぶりはさすがに素晴らしく、力任せのシカゴとは大違い！

シカゴとともにいわゆるブラスロック（もう死語だが）を代表したグループの大ヒットアルバム。シカゴに比べロック的側面は希薄な代わりに、ジャズ、クラシックの要素を巧みにブレンドして、都会的なサウンドを築き上げた。特に、２人のアレンジャー兼マルチプレイヤー F. Lipsius (sax, piano), D. Harrigan (organ, trombone)の才能がフルにつぎ込まれたtrack 2,3,8の各曲の輝きはいまなお失われていない。また、古い録音のアルバムにしては、高音と低音のメリハリが明確な、よい音質でレコーディングされている。Steely Danなどの好きな方には特におすすめ。ただし、D. Clayton-Thomasのやや泥臭いvocalに対してはかなり好みの分かれるところではある。

９人編成から生み出されるＢＳ＆Ｔのサウンドは、ロック＋ホーンセクションによる”ジャズ・ロック””ブラス・ロック”と呼ばれました。シカゴ（同じジェイムス・ガルシアのプロデュース）、チェイスなど共に一世を風靡し、このアルバムは１９６９年のグラミー賞アルバム・オブ・ジ・イヤーに輝いています。選曲とアレンジ力の素晴らしさを感じることになると思います。オープニングとクロージングに、エリック・サティが使われていてゾクっとさせる演出です。７曲目「スピニング・ホイール」８曲目「ユーヴ・メイド・ミー・ソー・ベリー・ハッピー」という２曲の大ヒット曲を含み、１１分に及ぶ即興的な演奏「ブルース／パートII」など聴き応え十分の迫力の１枚です。彼らは、このジャンルのパイオニア??言えると思います。時代を切り開いた音楽は３０年以上の年月が経過した今でも古さを感じさせません。お金を払って聴く価値は十分にあると思える傑作アルバムです。
