活動を復活させたアンセムのメジャーデビュー盤、当時大阪勢に押されぎみだったジャパメタシーンに「東京」ここにありという根性をみせた衝撃のデビュー作。坂本の声も若く、現在とはちがうあじわいもできる。

現在のライブでももりあがるお約束の曲はここからはじまった。このアルバム以降いろいろな壁にぶちあたることになるのだが、とにかくこの勢いのすごさは味わって損はないはず。

3rdアルバム“BOUND TO BREAK”でアンセムを知り、そこから過去の作品へと遡っていってこのデヴュー作を聴いた時の第一印象はズバリ“若い”。でも、その若さに任せて突っ走る様がまた痛快なんだよねぇ。ライブの定番となっている“WILD ANTHEM”や“STEELER”はやっぱりカッコいいし、“LAY DOWN”や“TURN BACK TO THE NIGHT”のようなイイも入ってます。ただ、聴く人によっては、B級臭が漂う、いわゆるジャパメタっぽい音だと感じるかもしれません。確かに“BOUND TO BREAK”で聴かれる、堂々としたアンセムの音とはかけ離れたものという気もしますが、それだけの理由で斬って捨ててしまうのは勿体無い魅力を持った作品であることもまた事実なのです。ひとつだけリクエストがあるとすれば、“WARNING ACTION !”を再録音して欲しいってことぐらいですかね。再び“ANTHEM WAYS”のようなベスト・アルバムを作る機会があったら、是非取り上げていただきたいです。

意外と悪くない。
これが、発売当時に2、3度聴いて駄作だと判断して全く聴いていなかったが、今回聴き直した正直な感想。
確かに、音質は良くないし、英三(Vo)の歌はアマチュアに毛が生えた程度。
しかし、楽曲が面白い。
以降の数パターンにしか類型化できないANTHEMの一本調子の曲作り(嫌いじゃないが・・)から逸脱している部分が興味深い。
私見だが、曲だけで比較すると、復活作『Seven Hills』より面白いアルバムだ。
ところで、洋也(G)が過少評価されているのは不思議だ。
音の芯の太さ、リフの切れ味は後任者には真似の出来ないところだろう。
