　ここまで完成された日本のロックトータルアルバムはないでしょう。ジャケットが如何せん時代を感じさせ、手に取るのを迷わせるかも知れないが、紐解いてみれば、至福の時を迎えることができるでしょう。インストの占める割合が高いのはトータルアルバムの運命、その分ボーカル曲が映えます。加藤和彦のセンスはフォークル時代から冴え渡っていますが、ここへ来て最高潮！あとは波に身を任せても安心です。時代に捕らわれない音楽センスが、このアルバムをいつまでも褪せさせることはないでしょう。さすが「タイムマシンにお願い」しただけのことはありますね（笑）

　を手がけたクリス・トーマスのプロデュースで、彼等のセカンド・アルバムになります。日本発売の翌年（１９７５年）には『Ｂｌａｃｋ　Ｓｈｉｐ』のタイトルでイギリスでも発売されました。海外で本格的に発表された初めての日本発ロック・アルバムだそうです。

　「タイムマシンにおねがい」「塀までひとっとび」など、後世に多大な影響を与えた名曲や、ポップでファンキーなサウンドが凄く楽しいです。コンセプト・アルバムとしてのクオリティも見事。（歌詞以外は）古びた感じが全然しないのは驚異的と云うべきでしょう。日本ポップ・ミュージック史上最も完成されたアルバムの一つと言えるかも知れません。いや本当。

　高橋幸宏氏のドラムが凄いです。このドラミングに影響を受けたという海外有名ミュージシャン（ドラマー）のインタビューも読んだ事があります。誰だか忘れましたが‥‥。

発売当時の思い出。クリス・トーマスのプロデュースということもあって洋楽ファンの間でも話題になった。「黒船」というタイトルや曲名で『やはり安易にもエキゾチック・ジャパンを売り物にするのか』という思いを抱きつつ音を聴いてビックリ！高中正義のギターは無茶苦茶格好いいし、印象的なイントロやリフが随所にあふれている。「タイムマシン~」や「塀までひとっとび」のイントロは今聴いても大好きだが当時は本当に痺れた。けっこうファンキーな音作りだが、これも当時とすれば最先端だった。
ありきたりな表現だが、時代を超えた名盤だ。
