   今、津軽三味線といえば「吉田兄弟」と答える人が多いほど、急速に人気を集めたこの2人。2歳違いの兄と弟は、どちらも5歳のときに三味線を始めている。10代前半から大会に出場し、99年に行われた全国大会では兄が準優勝、弟が優勝して、同年11月にアルバム『いぶき』でデビューした。茶髮に紋付袴というスタイルの意外性が若者の共感を呼び、マスコミにも大きく取りあげられた。

   前作では、津軽あいや節やよされ節など、オーソドックスな選曲が多かった。セカンド・アルバムの本盤は、オリジナル曲がバランスよく収録されていて、吉田兄弟の魅力が満喫できる。

   オープニングを飾る<1>はテンポのいいアレンジになっていて、2人の掛けあいに力がこもる。この曲を聞いていると、三味線によるフュージョン・アルバムかと思ってしまうほどだ。デビュー盤にも収録された<6>は、オリジナル・ヴァージョンで演じられている。スローテンポの掛けあいで始まり、かけ声とともに一気にプレイクする。（新井由己）

三味線の音色は日本人に響くようで、音が染みてくる。最近の電子系の様にしつこくない。秋の夜長にはぴったりでは・・・

エンターテイメント要素はほとんどなくて、お弟子さんたちの発表会を聞かされているがごとし。コンテストで上位に食い込める腕前だそうでして。「わび、さびの世界」が展開されているのかもしれませんが、三味線ブームと言う名の戦略が見え隠れするのでございます。特に強く感じましたのは「伝統の新しさ」という部分でございます。この部分に関しましてはまだまだ消化不足の感は否定できません。情熱的な演奏は引き込まれそうになる瞬間がございますが、寸止め海峡になっているようです。三味線という楽器になぜゆえにこだわり続けているのかのその解答は演奏からはあまり見えませんでした。（６点）

どんな楽器でもそうですが、たたきつけるように大きな音を出してもそれが壊れないで響き渡る、というのは、弾き手の方に相応の力と技量が必要です。

2000年の作品ですが、吉田兄弟の若々しくエネルギーにあふれる、真摯な活動ぶりが伝わってきます。津軽三味線がこんなにも躍動感にあふれるものなのか、と、何度聞いても震撼します。男の三味線というのは、ほんとうに力強いですね。哀切に満ちた響き、といわれる三味線ですが、吉田兄弟の場合には、怒濤、疾風といった表現の方がふさわしいのではないかと思います。

彼らがフュージョンに凝る前、紅白歌合戦での演奏で感動して購入。最近の洗練されたサウンドがお好みの方はまた違った味もあるのでは。
