5.0 out of 5 stars ハワイの日本人の歴史を知るきっかけに。, 2004/8/29
このDVDはハワイでノースショアー観光をしたときに、
ツアーガイドさんに勧められた映画です。

今や、ハワイというと、ショッピング、サーフィンなどと楽しい
イメージが多いですが、この映画のタイトルでもある「ピクチャー
ブライド」、写真のお見合いでハワイへ来られて、苦労した日本人
の方々がいたからこそ、今のハワイの基盤があるんだな、と思うと

すごく感慨深くなりました。
私自身、ハワイに住んで2年になりますが、政治や文化の面で、
このハワイ州は他の州よりも、はるかに日系人が多く、そして
日系人に住みやすい州であることを感じます。
それには、90年ほど前に苦労してさとうきび畑で働いてきた日系1世
の方たちの並々ならぬ苦労があったからで、

そして、その方たちが自分の子供たちの教育にお金をかけたからこそ
今のハワイの日系社会の基礎ができたと思うのです。

映画の中では16歳のリヨの心情が手に取るようにわかって、
すごく切なくなり、リヨのまわりの人たちとのふれあいや、
白人（アメリカ人）とポルトガル人の間の確執などもわかり、
またハワイの自然の風景もうまく撮影されていて、

本当にいい映画でした。

もっと違うハワイを見たい、という方には本当にお勧めです。
私も、ノースショアーを見る目が変わりました。
みていて、ほろり、ほろり、と涙が出る映画です。
特に女性の方にお勧めです。
ハワイへ行く前に見て欲しいです。

一度ビデオを借りてみましたが、とても気になって
ＤＶＤを求めましたが、品薄で結構な投資となりました。
それでも、決して損をした気にならず、私個人にとっては
お気に入りの一つに加えたい作品です。
２０歳を少し超えたばかりの工藤夕貴は、
宝石のように輝いていました。
監督も女性で、映画全体が優しさに包まれていて、

見た後に不思議な余韻が残る佳作だと思います。

惜しくも水難事故で亡くなった、カヨ・ハッタの代表作。工藤夕貴が写真花嫁としてハワイに嫁ぐストーリー。夕貴は本作の好演が目に止まり、「ヒマラヤ杉に降る雪」のヒロインに抜擢され、ハリウッドでも知られる日本人女優になった。紙芝居の弁士役で三船敏郎が特別出演。このシーンはやはり画面が引き締まる。カヨ・ハッタが神のように尊敬していた三船は、本作が最後のハリウッド作品となってしまった。比較的描写も正確であり、「愛と哀しみの旅路」とともに、日系アメリカ人の苦闘を描いた傑作である。
