昨今のAORブームで、ＡＯＲの立役者なのにあまり目立っていない？マイケル・マクドナルド。ﾄﾞｩｰﾋﾞｰブラザースのイメージが強すぎて、ウエストコースサウンドが前面に出ているからでしょうか？このＣＤには1~4までがドゥービーブラザースの名曲を収録。どれも聞き覚えのある曲です。ソロ自体の曲は今まで発表してきたアルバムからまんべんなく、収録されています。

また12はアンブロージアのデビット・パックのCDに収録されていたジェームス・イングラムとの競演。そのほかにも、9はパティ・ラベルとのNO1ソング、8はジェームス・イングラムのＣＤでduet14はアレサ・フランクリンとのDUETとしたものとマイケルのオリジナルＣＤだけでは味わえない曲が入っています。あと15もNEW　YORK　ROCK　AND　SOUL　!RE!!VUREというライブアルバム収録と、マイケルのオリジナルしか持っていない人も、これからマイケルを聞きたいと思っている人も、DUETソング大好きな人にもおすすめできるないようです。

よく言われるマイケル加入前と後のドゥービーブラザーズ比較対照。
そういう雑音を一払してくれる内容です。

スティーリー・ダン時代に育んできた音楽的センス、ドゥービー時代のソウルフルなナンバー、ソロ後の洗練されたセンスとマイケルのほとんど全てが凝縮されています。

最近カバーされまくっている、ケニー・ロギンスとの合作で'79年グラミー受賞の『What a fool believes』はやっぱり最高ですね！

ちなみに12の『Sweet Freedom』は、『あぶない刑事』の元ネタとなったビリー・クリスタル＆グレゴリー・ハインズの映画『シカゴコネクション/夢見て走れ』の挿入歌でもありました・・・。

2000年までのマイケルマクドナルドのキャリアの集大成といえる内容の一枚です。
収録曲は他のレビュアーの方が書かれている通り名曲揃いです。

追記させていただくと、What a fool~は言わずと知れた名曲ですが、この曲はケニーロギンスとの共作です。
実はこのアルバムには、このコンビによる曲が他にも6,7と収録されています。ともにキャッチーでいい曲です。What a fool~共々、ケニーロギンスのアルバムの方には、ケニーのボーカルで収録されていますので、違いを楽しむのもいいかもしれません。
9,14はニューヨークシティセレナーデを産み出した、バートバカラック、キャロルベイヤーセイガーによる作品です。
16はスティービーワンダーの名曲のカバー。

地声とファルセットつなぎ目が解らない希有なシンガーの、脂の乗りきった時代の作品群という意味での価値観もある一枚です。
