日本ギター界の期待の星、木村大のセカンド・アルバム。本作では、彼がもっとも得意とするアメリカ大陸、アフリカの作曲家たちの作品を満を持して収録。特にA.ヨークとの初のデュオは必聴だ。

恐るべきティーンエイジャーの第2作が出た。題して『駿馬』。なるほど、父や兄弟がギタリストという音楽的な環境で育ち、中学2年生にして東京国際ギターコンクールで優勝した木村大にふさわしいタイトルである。しかも、単に毛並みがよくて、持ち前のすぐれたテクニックで気持ちよく突っ走るという“次元”などではなく、内側から吹き上げてくる“思い”が、そこここに聴き取れる点が誠に素晴らしい。なかでも印象的だったのは、イルマル作曲のバーデン・ジャズ組曲。彼の指先が紡ぎ出す絶妙な歌と、サンバをはじめとする活き活きと弾むリズムの饗宴には、ただただ圧倒的されるばかりだ。「クラシックのギターは聴かないが、先頃亡くなったバーデン・パウエルのファンだ」というタイプの人にも、ぜひとも聴いていただきたいと思う。木村の名刺代わりともいえる「ムーンタン」や「サンバースト」の作曲者であるアンドリュー・ヨークとの二重奏も収録されている。 (満津岡信育) --- 2000年11月号

ほぼ全曲に渡って言えることが、中級~上級曲を演奏しているにも関わらずそのテンポがただならぬスピードで突き進むので、自ずと奏者の技量がいかに凄まじいというのが伝わってくる。

リブラソナチネの第三楽章などは幾ら、幾分弾きやすい作曲が売りのディアンズとは言え、彼の奏でる第三楽章はただならぬ曲にさえなってしまっているのだ。同じ事がコユンババ第三楽章にも言えると思う。

クラシックギタリストで最も愛好されているラウロのナタリアも勿論ここに選曲されているのだが、やはりこの曲もスピード感が凄い。しかしラウロの特徴である中南米特有のセンチメンタルなメロディーを殺した演奏になっていないのもまた中々だと思う。

サンバースト等で知られるヨークであるが、また知られていないエマージェンスを収録したのは興味深かった。何か最近彼はヨークの広告塔になっていないか？とも思うほど彼の曲と切っても切れない関係になりつつあるようだが、サンバーストの間奏に見られるような高速な低音アルペジオというヨークならではのアプローチ方法を全編に渡って駆使しているエマージェンスはやや単調な中にも今までのクラシックギターには無い新しいアプローチを感じた。この辺りは勿論演奏者も誉めるべきだろうが、流石はヨークだと言うべきだろう。

その他彼にしては珍しく中南米曲バーテンジャズ組曲やヨーク提供の数少ないデュオ曲である京都をテーマにした三千院等、多彩な顔ぶれである。また後半のラウロは前述した通りラウロのこれでもかという位の感傷的な曲がづらりと並びノックアウトされるだろう。規模の小さい曲ながらこのような美しいメロディーを書く才能を持つラウロも誉めるべき作曲家。

木村大らしい雰囲気がいたるところにちりばめられています。
若さを感じさせる、つまりまだ未熟さが残るという意味も含められますが、彼らしい一枚です。
自分の演奏はかっこいいんだ！きいてくれ！
そんな声が聞こえてきそうで、かわいらしくもあります。
ちなみに彼自身は、もっと古典的な曲目も勉強したいということで
今留学をして頑張っています。

帰国後の成長を楽しみに待っているのは
きっと私だけではないでしょう。
