30台までこの人の来日ライブは可能な限り聞きに行きましたが、期待を裏切られた方が多かった。それもこのコブラ時代の壮絶な素晴らしさに捕われてしまったからなのかも知れない。RushはこれとChess(Door to door....<So many road>!),Moaning in the morning(gambler's blues!),そして..そしてRight place wrong time(本当に素晴らしい！）、1972年のAnn Arbor のライブ（オムニバス盤の中の一曲）で必要最小限の作品は揃うでしょう。あっと忘れていた！最近出たAmerican FolK Festival VOL1のRushの映像のすごさには呆然としてしまいます。是非！

なんだか炭鉱労働者の恨み節にも似た、この重い歌とリズム、ひきずるようないわゆるクサいブルースなんですが、ここまで演じて没入していれば、それは人の胸をうちます。よく論じられるように当り外れのキツい彼ですが、僕なら真っ先にこの盤（コブラ）を挙げます。これがやはり最高作でしょう。以前のPーヴァイン盤では曲順が少し違うけど、内容はほぼ同じ。この当時のオーテイスは格別です。ギターもよくエピフォンを抱えた彼を見ますが、ここではストラトを使ったとインタヴューで読んだことがあります。モノラル録音のふくよかさを実感します。コブラのエコー、実にいい音（音質と違うレベルで）してます。

コブラのラッシュには賛辞も含め今さら言葉は不要でしょうが、それがこのＣＤを改めて購入することを躊躇させる人を生んでいるような気もします。しかし、このＣＤに収められたアウト・テイクと、ブックレットの写真だけでも改めて購入する価値がのある一枚です。未聴の方はなにはともあれ一聴を。
