１２時間後に「死」を宣告されたケンジ（金城武）の１２時間の話。死ぬ前になにをしたいのか？と考えたときケンジは男の本能のままに行動。で、結局は
それがもとで彼は死ぬことに・・・と言うと、なんだかみもふたもない話。

ひとりニューヨークで暮らして、今現在の彼は職もなく友人もイタリア人の友人がひとり。日本の母親に職をみつけるまでのつなぎに、仕送りの催促をしたり、女の子をナンパしてもからまわり。ぱっとしない日常に、なじみきれない街・孤独な自分。と、見続けるうちに彼の最後の方の「君のぬくもりが欲しい」と言うセリフが、ああそうだったのかという気持ちにさせられます。「死」が決まってしまった後で母親に「声が聞きたかっただけ。仕事が決まったからお金は送らなくていいよ!。」と電話するシーンがうるっときました。
このシーンは金城武本人もぐっときたそうです。ひととうり見て金城ファンじゃないと９７分はつらいかな~

武ファンの私としては、彼が観られるだけで嬉しい。でもこの映画は、後味があまりによくありませんでした。もう一回観ようとはあんまり・・・思わない一本でした。

「日本人青年」を主人公にするなら、金城クンを起用するのは冒険でしょう。
本人の言うとおり（ゲームのアフレコで身も蓋も無い酷評を...）日本語はプログレていないし、彼の持っている根源的な「日本」は、おそらく彼の父上の感覚を通っているし。感受性が豊かだと思われる彼が彼自身の今の「日本」を体現できたとしても、それを理解できるかは疑問だし。

つまり、自分だったらどうしたか。この作品についてそう考えてみることをお薦めします。やり直しできませんしね。

ミラ扮する”デス”と結婚する（受け入れる）事＝死との契約という表現が面白かった。文金高島田のミラと、羽織袴姿のタケちゃんがとても良い。何を思ったか「可哀相に。」なんて言われて、おまけにこときれるまでデスの膝枕って、それはあまりに役得でしょう。
