孤高のグループである。いわゆるコアな歌謡曲/演歌の世界に身を置き30年、彼等はそのジャンルとは必ずしも相容れない、バンド・サウンドによる音作りに拘り続けている。たとえオリジナル・メンバーがヴォーカルの田中収一人になったとしても、だ。

そして本作では生のホーン・セクション及び黒人コーラスとの競演が実現、一曲目の「YO-KO-SU-KA」の再録からして収さんのソウルが炸裂、飛ばしまくっている。それを暖かく受け止める杉本真人＆NOBITA両氏の楽曲がまた素晴らしい。特に「生きる(Change my life)」と「涙のドアチェイン」は、このバンドの新たな名刺となるだろう。そしてかつての代表曲である「放(ほか)されて」「お祭りさわぎ」をあえて軽めのアレンジにすることで、アルバムの箸休め的なポジションに置いているのも心憎い。

「サチコ」をリアルタイムで知っている世代ばかりでなく、日頃「昭和歌謡」とか「ニッチ・ポップ」といった言葉に踊らされている若いリスナーにこそ、このアルバムを通じて本物の持つ凄味を感じてもらいたいと思う。良い音楽の聴かず嫌いは、許されないのだ。
