ヴァイオリンの難曲中の難曲として有名なパガニーニのカプリス。それを16歳（だと思います）の女の子が弾いているとなると「こんな小さな子供がこんな難曲を弾いている！」というような興味本位のCDではなかろうか、という疑問がわいてくるのですが、実際に聴いてみるとまったくそんなことはありません。

子供っぽさとか未熟さを感じさせるものは、技術的にも音楽的にもまったくなくて、非常に充実したすばらしい内容のCDです。
往年のヴァイオリン巨匠といわれている人たちのカプリスも聴いてみましたが、この五嶋みどりさんの演奏は、その中でもずば抜けてすばらしいものでした。

私がいくつか聴いた中では、最も優れた演奏の「パガニーニのカプリス」のCDです。

これを聴いて、語りかけてくるものがないなんて、何処を聴いているんだ。１６歳が弾いているとか、日本人が弾いているとかそんな些細なことはどうでもいいことだ。テクニックのすばらしさ、情緒の豊かさ、音色の変化など、快感である。これ以上のカプリースがあろうか！

CDジャケットに映る幼いみどりさんの面影と中身の充実度のギャップが凄い！
あまりに流麗に弾かれているので難しさが分かりづらいけど、他の人の演奏を聞くとその難しさがよく分かるのです。
これ以上高度にバランスの取れたカプリースの録音は存在しないのでは？
この演奏を前にして、年齢のわりにどうのとかってナンセンスですよ。
だって、もしかするとこのとき以上の演奏をみどりさん自信でさえ弾くのは不可能なんじゃ？と思っちゃうほど、パーフェクトなのです！
