ジョン・ウィリアムズの若き日の名演奏の数々。
タイトルどおりスペイン・ギターのレパートリーの中から
名曲中の名曲がほぼ網羅されている（編曲ものも含む）。
正確なタッチと端正な曲作りに加え、スペインの情緒をも
見事に表現している名演は、さすがウィリアムズ！！

私は高校生の頃この一枚でクラシックギターにはまりました。

彼の大きな特徴は、必要以上にリズムを崩す（ルバート）ことなく、ギター本来の姿を世に問うた所でしょう。
トラック１０から２１までが６９年録音のＪＷｐｌａｙｓＳｐａｎｉｓｈＭｕｓｉｃ、ほかはそれ以前の録音と思われます。
すさまじいパワーと速いテンポで快演の１３詩的ワルツ集（グラナドス）、ダイナミズムが秀逸の２１コルドバ（アルベニス）、この２つはギター・ソロでの世界初録音です。
　７０年代には『バッハ・アルバム（リュート作品）』、８０年代が『バロック・アルバム』、９０年代では２度目の『バリオス』とどの時代にもおすすめアルバムがある卓越したギタリストです。

初めてジョン・ウィリアムスを聞こうという方、おすすめです。
彼の名演を集めている方に一言。このコンピレーション（というかベスト盤）には、メインとなる６９年のアルバム収録であった『カナリオス（作サンス)』、『ノクトゥルノ＜夜想曲＞』『マドローニョス』（ともにモレノ・トローバ作）らが割愛されていますのでご注意を！
参考までにギター・オリジナルが２、４、５、６、７、９、１２。ほかはレパートリーです。ピアノからの編曲１、３、１０、１１、１３、２１。民謡８、１８，１９＜ギタリストのリョベートが【カタロニア民謡集】として編曲＞。歌とピアノ伴奏が２０。管弦楽（ファリャ自身のピアノ版もあり）が１５，１６，１７。チェンバロが１４　という作品群です。

クラッシックギター界の元プリンスで現在は巨匠であるジョンウイリアムスの２０歳台の瑞々しい若々しい演奏です。ギターの神様と言われた今は亡きアンドレスセゴビアをして神が乗り移った手を持つ神童と言わしめたジョンウイリアムスは大変優れたすばらしい演奏をしております。トレモロ演奏も大変滑らかで美しいものです。このアルバムに納められているグラナドス作曲の「詩的なワルツ」は早いテンポで演奏されていますが大変見事な演奏で、本当に流れる様な演奏で心を動かされます。またグラナドス作曲の「ゴヤの美女」も大変良い演奏で、何度聞いても心を動かされます。これ以外の収録曲も皆素晴らしい演奏です。このCDはジョンウイリアムスという人の演奏を理解するのに大変役に立つCDであると考えます。
