もう何種類も発売されているアニマルズのベスト盤だが、今回発売されるのは“NEW MILLENNIUM BEST”というシリーズのなかの一枚。彼らの代名詞的楽曲にして歴史的名曲の「朝日のあたる家」がメインのお馴染みの選曲内容ではあるが、エリック・バードンの圧倒的にして黒っぽい歌声、これまた卓越にして黒っぽいバンドの演奏、そしてアラン・プライスの優れたアレンジ能力による彼らのブルース・フィーリングに満ち満ちたサウンドは、すでに耳タコな楽曲であろうとも、やはり血湧き肉踊らされてしまうはず。 (矢作計助) --- 2000年10月号

　このバンドはエリック・バードンがボーカルを務めていますが、
ブライアン・ジョーンズをしてイギリス最高の歌い手と言わしめたそうです。
その言葉のとおり、彼の声はとにかくイギリス的です。
野太く、それでいて退廃的でもあり、どこか郷愁を感じます。
地元がニューカッスルという点もあると思います。
同世代のビートルズの影に隠れてますが是非聴いて見てください。

１９６４年、ギターとオルガンが繰り出す印象的なイントロから始まり、ボーカルのエリック　バードンが重苦しく叫ぶように歌う声が、アランプライスの奏でる流麗なオルガンと一体となってブルージーなサウンドに仕上がり、白人が歌うＲ＆Ｂとして、一躍脚光を浴び大ヒットしました。その、朝日のあたる家（THE HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN)は、ボブ　ディランがファーストアルバムで取り上げた黒人音楽の民謡を、アランプライスがカッコいい、ブリティッシュ　ロック風Ｒ＆Ｂに見事にアレンジしたもので、この一曲でアニマルズの名を世界中に轟かせました。

アニマルズとは？ビートルズと同じ60年代のイギリスのバンドです。私は、実際このバンドの経歴についてあまり知りません！しかし、the House Of Rising Sun は、かなりおすすめです、特にメロディーと歌い方はどことなく淋しげで､心にくるものがあります。
