70年代アメリカン・ロックを代表する一枚。
デビュー以来、アメリカン・プログレッシヴ・ロックの代表格であったJourneyは、Steve Perryをリード・ヴォーカルに迎えた本作でシンプルなロック・サウンドに方向転換し、大成功を収めた。
Steve Perry以外のメンバーは前作『Next』と同じで、Gregg RolieとSteve Perryのヴォーカルの掛け合いも聴ける。
楽曲アイデアが豊富で演奏にも艶があり、彼らの最も良い時期の作品と言える。
演奏面ではドラムスのAynsley DunbarとギターのNeal Schonが素晴らしく、それに負けじと張りきるSteve Perryの若いヴォーカルが気持ち良い。
シングル・ヒットした「Lights」、「Wheel In The Sky」以外にも優れた楽曲が多く、5曲目の「Patiently」などは鳥肌ものの美しさ。
全てのロック・ファンに捧げたい名曲だ。

このアルバム発売当時（７８年）プログレ・ハード・ロックと言われていた彼等のスティーブ・ペリー加入第一作です。サンフランシスコの夕暮れを情感豊かに歌ったバラード“LIGHTS"に始まり、コラースがきれいでグレッグ・ローリーとの掛け合いがある“FEELING　THAT　WAY",”ANYTIME"と続き（この辺のミドルの曲をじっくり聞かせられるのが今のメタル系バンドには出来ない）、ハードな“LA　DO　DA"から引き続きこれまたきれいなバラード”PATIENTLY"に続く、完璧な流れだ！！レコードでのB面はヒット曲”WHEEL　IN　THE　SKY"に始まる。ここにおけるペリーのハイトーンボーカルは素晴らしいく、ライブでも完璧に歌いこなしていた。"somethin'to hide"もペリーの伸び伸びとしたボーカルが味わえる。（これが彼のデビューアルバムだなんて信じられない！）次の”WINDS　OF　MARCH"は展開の凝った名曲でここでも素晴らしいボーカルとニール・ショーンのメロディアスなギターソロが堪能できる。”CAN　DO"はアルバム中一番重い感じのハードロックで最後は少しオリエント風に味付けられた“OPEN　THE　DOOR"で終わる。産業ロックとジャニーを批判する批評家が多いが、キチンとこのアルバムを聴けばいかに彼らが素晴らしいバンドで、後世にに残る素晴らしいアルバムを作っているかがわかると思う。

Steve Perryをボーカルとして迎えて、プログレから方向転換したのがこのアルバム。
"Lights"や"Wheel In The Sky"など、現在のライブでも演奏される名曲を始めとして、"Winds Of March"など、ベスト盤などには未収録ですが素晴らしい曲がめじろ押し。
このアルバムは絶対に買いです。このアルバム抜きにJourneyは語ることは出来ません。
