どの収録曲も、鍛え上げられた素晴らしいアンサンブルを、イヤと云う程満喫させてくれるキョ-レツな１枚です。ハーリ・ヤ-ノシュについては、これ以上の完成度は見込めない位の演奏で、セルらしいシャープで虚飾を廃したアプローチと、癖の無い演出が見事にハマッてます。キージェ中尉も同様で、特に楽曲の随所にフュ-チュアされているコルネットのソロは、絶品です。その他の楽曲も文句の付け所が見当たらない、といったところでしょうか？時代を超えて蘇るセル／クリ-ヴランドの芸術をたっぷり堪能できることをお約束しますよ！録音年代が古いですが、逆にアナログマスターの長所が生きているとも云えるのではないかと思いますが…。全体的に硬さはあるものの、冷たさを感じないのも、演奏の完成度の高さを物語る要素の一つだと思います。デジタルレコーディングでは、この感じは出せないでしょうね。硬いのに、何か『人の創りしもの』の温もりも感じる『日本刀』のような印象さえ受ける、珠玉の超オススメ盤です。

　「ハーリ・ヤーノシュ」と「キージェ中尉」は1969年、「だったん人の踊り」と「スペイン奇想曲」は1958年、「魔法にかけられた泉」は1963年の演奏。
　アメリカには技術的に優れたオーケストラが多くありましたが、頂点はやはりクリーヴランド管弦楽団だったのではないでしょうか。一糸乱れぬ精密なアンサンブル、ソロの美しさ、サウンドの力強さ、どれをとっても完璧で驚かされます。しかし、その完璧さの中にも人間的な暖かみや熱さが感じられるのがポイント。「セルの演奏は機械的で冷たいものだ」というイメージを持っている人がいるかもしれませんが、この演奏を聴くと、それは間違いであることがわかるはずです。
　「セル没後30周年記念」ということで、気合が入っていたのでしょうか、リマスターも良好で聴きやすい音質です。
