　あちゃ~！やっちゃったよ！思いっきりポップでコマーシャルになっちゃってるじゃん！デビュー時のふてぶてしいまでのあの貫禄は何処へやら。ヴォーカルのゲイリーだけでなく、四人のメンバー全員が卓越したテクニックでもって、初期衝動そのままにガチンコ勝負でぶつかり合い、伝統的ブリティッシュ・ロックに新たな息吹を吹き込んで、それを現代に蘇らせていた1st、2ndのスリリングかつ大胆不敵なあのリーフは一体どうしてしまったんだ。本作に収められた楽曲はどれも良質で、このアルバムからリーフを聴く人にとっては充分満足できる内容かも知れない。しかし1st、2nd…と時間軸に沿って聴いてきたものにはかなりショックだ。何故なら良質なメロディを追求するあまり、ヴォーカルのゲイリーのみに焦点が合ってしまい、このバンドが生まれながらに持っていた、奇跡としか表現しようのない独特なグルーヴ感が完全に失われているからだ。恐らく2ndが全英ナショナル・チャートに輝きながら、前作『RIDES』('99) があまり売れなかったこと、そこからシングルヒットが生まれなかったことなどから、こうした方向転換を図ったのであろうが、ヒット狙い見え見えの美メロ・バラードや、ギター、ベース、ドラムがユニゾンで演奏されるポップなパンク・ロックなんか聴きたくはなかった。嗚呼、愛するリーフよ何処へ行く・・・。

（とはいえ、これは愛するが故の辛口批評であり、これはこれで結構聴いてたりしますです・笑）

前作「Rise」のラウドでストレートな部分だけを純粋には受け継がず、2ndアルバムとミックスしたような作品。それでも、今の音楽シーンにこれほどわかりやすいバンドはいませんけど。
全体的なクオリティこそ前２作に劣るものの、随所に魅せつける楽曲の良さはさすがといった感じ。特に１曲目は彼らの代表曲「Place Your Hands」を踏襲した名曲と言えるだろう。その他にもポップであるながらダイナミックに展開する「Getaway」、今流行りのヘヴィロックもブっ飛ぶ「Pretenders」、新たなセンスを感じさせる「All I Want」などで彼らの新境地を開拓している。

REEFの初期の作品からのファンでないので大層なことはいえないが,これもREEFの作風のうちのひとつだなと感じた。確かに初期のころのあの独特のグルーブ感は本作品では弱冠後退しているものの、それを補う馬鹿馬鹿しいまでの生々しさが宿っている。ノリのいいスピード感のある楽曲が揃っている本作品はREEFのカタログの中でもとっつきやすさは一番かもしれない。とにかく体全体で聴く音楽には間違いない、ノリノリな音楽だ。
