グラミー賞を取った年、ミーハーな気持ちでコンサートに行った。トレイシーが女性だと知ったのもこの時・・・あれから時が経ち、私もあの頃よりは大人になった。今ＣＭで流れる曲の殆どが青春時代に流行った物ばかり。選曲する方が同年代なのだろうとなんだか親近感が湧く。このアルバムは引っ越しの際見当たらなくなってしまい、もう一度購入した。数ある私のＣＤの中で、無くしてもう一度買い求めようと思うＣＤはそんなに多くない。静かで、凛として深い・・・はにかんだ様なジャケットも大好き。思いを歌い、それを聴く人がこのアルバムを謳う。時を感じさせない、おすすめのアルバムです*

1988年リリース。MTV世代ならこのアルバムからシングル・カットされた『Fast Car』のヴィデオ・クリップを見た人も多いだろう。内気な彼女の顔は影でほとんど隠れてしまっていたが、彼女の低い低い声で歌われるこの曲のクリップは一度見たら忘れられないほどインパクトの強いものだった。そして

And I got a plan to get us out of here
I been working at the convenience store
Managed to save just a little bit of money

という詞。レジを打ち、アルコール中毒の父と暮らす生活から逃げ出したいという気持ちをボーイフレンドの車に託す気持ちが痛いほど出ていた。僕の中に彼女の哀しそうな下向きの表情と一緒に残っているアルバムである。

矢井田瞳さんもカバーした"FAST CAR"は名曲ですよ。
先日、家の中から当時のＴＶ番組を録画したビデオを発見し、この曲のＰＶを見たのですが、もう感涙です。
心に響くシンプルな音楽を求めている方、手に取って聴いてみて下さい。

シンプルな伴奏に、語りかけるようでいて、奥に力を秘めたヴォーカル

ぐっと、素手で心臓を掴まれるようなそんな印象を受ける。
