B・シーン(b,元D・L・ロス・バンド)が結成したスーパー・バンドの1st。70年代のヘヴィ・ロックをベースに,極めて生に近いスリリングな臨場感を織り込んだサウンドはオーソドックスだが力強い。個人的には,E・マーティン(vo)の力量を高く評価したい。


Album Details

Japanese only SHM pressing. Includes one bonus track. The SHM-CD [Super High Material CD] format features enhanced audio quality through the use of a special polycarbonate plastic. Using a process developed by JVC and Universal Music Japan discovered through the joint companies' research into LCD display manufacturing SHM-CDs feature improved transparency on the data side of the disc allowing for more accurate reading of CD data by the CD player laser head. SHM-CD format CDs are fully compatible with standard CD players.

これぞ、ＭＲ．ＢＩＧのデビュー作にして、最高傑作でしょう！一般的には
２ｎｄが彼らの出世作と言われるが、今聴いても、１ｓｔの演奏や曲の素晴らしさは、一番だと思います。再発盤ならリマスターされてなくても、音のレベルは上がってるでしょう。即買いです！

Mr.BIGの作品は基本的にどれも完成度が高いけど
この1stだけは完成度を求めずに結果として完成度が伴った為
他のどの作品にもない独特の空気があると思うのだ。
マーティーの声をたてながらも、ビリーとポールの間にとてもいい緊張感があるのだ。
次作、とりわけ「to be with you」などで、ハードロックのジャンルの外のファンにも
彼らのよさ、ハードロックのよさを提示してくれた功績も大きく
個人的にもその後の作品も大好きだけど、本作は好みの問題以前に
ロック界に大きな意味を持つ、最初じゃなければ作りえなかった大傑作だと思うのだ。
まずは入門したいって方はベストや2nd「リーンイントゥイット」を聴くのがいいと思うけど
おいらは本格的にいくぜ！って方は、やはりこの1stから聴くのがベストなのだ♪

このアルバムをはじめて聞いた時、ツェッペリンをはじめて聴いた
時と同等の衝撃が走った。言葉では表せないくらいの衝撃だった。

今改めてこの衝撃の理由を考え直してみると、以下の理由があげられる。
たいていのアーティストのものがそうだが、１stにはそのアーティストの
存在感が全身全霊を込めて叩き込まれる。このアルバムはその中でもかなり

の極端な例といっていい。そのため、このアルバムにはMR.BIGの存在感、
エッセンス、そして魅力が過ぎるぐらいに凝縮されているように感じる。

最近の彼らの曲の中ではだいぶ地味になってしまっている
ビリーやポールの超絶ストリングスプレイもここでは全開になっている。
大ヒットした「Lean Into It」を代表作とする声は多い。でも上に書いた

理由から、僕はこちらのほうを最初に聴いた方がいいと思う。
