ソウルからフォーク,カントリーからサルサまでと音幅の広さは相変わらずながら,何気ない言葉を歌ったシックな印象の新作。ピアノ,ストリングスやマリンバが鳴る,聴き心地の良さを重視した作り。とはいえ「BBQパーティー」の詞など毒気は健在。


内容 (「CDジャーナル・レビュー」より)

聴いている分にはキャッチーでも、口ずさもうとすると正しく音程を取るのが難しいほどの凝ったメロディ。多様な音楽へのリスペクトが重層的になされたアレンジ。謎めいた歌詞。この兄弟ユニットの作風には年季の入った音楽好きを夢中にさせるマジックがある。ファーストの『ペイパードライヴァーズミュージック』が98年の個人的ベスト作品だったので、本作も興味深く聴いた。兄・堀込高樹の異能のメロディ・メイカーぶりが全開する軽快な(1)、穏やかな表情の奥にのぞく甘さを排した感傷が美しい(2)、熟慮されたシンプルさを志向する弟・泰行が個性を発揮したカントリー風味の(3)と、聴き応えのある楽曲が続く。兄弟の共作曲で、先行シングルとなったファンクの(6)や、スティーリー・ダンの『幻想の摩天楼』から抜け出してきたような(9)もいい。まとまりのよさなら前作だが、バラエティの豊かさでは本作。同じ質感のアルバムとしなかった点に、さらなる可能性を感じる。 (浅羽晃) --- 1999年08月号

聴けば聴くほど癖になるキリンジの世界。いろんな音楽のエッセンスをミキサーにかけて、それを素に自分たちのオリジナルの音楽を作り出す、そんなところにキリンジの音楽力とでもいうべき実力と天性の才能を感じる。

ひき逃げの曲にはじまり、拉致問題で有名なアノ国を連想させる４曲目、ホームレス？な９曲目など、歌詞はちょっとアブなめな本作ではあるが、どの曲もキリンジらしいメロディーであとからジワリと効いてきます。

ほんと、毒気が多いです。でも、イタ気持ちいい感じでついつい聴きたくなります。世の中を斜めから見てるような、ちょっとだけひねくれた人におすすめです。ただ、純粋にすばらしい曲も多いので、自称普通の人にも、おすすめしたいです。

個人的にはキリンジの最高傑作。キリンジの魅力はそのサウンドの素晴らしさもあるが、ちょっと毒のある歌詞、耳にひっかかるキーワードも大きな魅力。Fine以降のキリンジは歌詞がちょっと大人しい。最も毒のある歌詞がこのアルバムだと思います。「Drive Me Crazy」の「ざくろ」ってアレの比喩じゃないかと思わせたり、「ダンボールのパレス」の「支店長はここから舞い降りたのか」とか、ドキリとするワードがちりばめられいます。ちょっとひねったポップスが好きな方に大推薦。
