このCDを知ったのは、某雑誌のレビューでした。
平山三紀といえば「真夏の出来事」くらいしか知らなかった小娘でしたが、なんかそのレビューがやけに心のとびらをノックしてきたため、買ってみたんです。

当時はまだPCやケータイで気軽にCDが買えなかったので、たまたま当時レコ屋で働いていた友人に頼んだんです。田舎のレコ屋というものは、ちょっとマイナーな注文をすると怪訝な顔をされたりするので、この友人がいなかったら、今の私はいなかったかもしれません。

それはどうでもいいとして、このようなCDを「ベスト」もしくは「決定盤」というのではないでしょうか？
いや、もちろんベストだと思う曲なんて人それぞれですが、なんというか、今その辺に蔓延してる、カラオケ用のベスト盤とは気合!いが違います。

なんせ平山姐さんの独特のコブシが利いた歌に、デスコのズンドコしたリズムがのっかって、も~最初聴いた時の衝撃ったらなかったですよ。
しかもこれが初めて買った平山姐さんのCDだったため、さらに倍！！

それから私も色々なCDを聴いてきましたが、未だにこの迫力に勝つベスト盤に出会ったことがありません、と言いきっちゃいます。

「ピロートーク」や「L.Aトゥナイト」が鳴り響くデスコがあれば行って朝まで踊りたいです。
きっとそこはダウンタウン六本木、ィ夜のオアシスで、話し上手なジローにジョージがいて、ドライマティニ飲んで…（以下略）。

98年、《筒美京平ウルトラ・ベスト・トラックス》の１枚として、ワーナーからリリースされたもの。大部分ロス録音で制作された、ソニー時代のサウンドをさらに全面展開させたかのような79年の“濃い”オリジナル・アルバム-この中から、バラードの逸品「絆（c/w パープル）」がシングルカット-に、同年のシングル「マンダリン パレス／ピロートーク」、そして87年ファンハウスからの-73年「恋のダウン・タウン」以来、久々のオリコン100位入りを果たした-シングル「冗談じゃない朝／バラの奇跡」を追加してCD化。先般ソニーからリリースされた充実の２枚組『筒美京平を歌う』が一見、不思議な印象の、微妙に抜けているような選曲になっていたのは、このCDの存在に配慮してのことだったと思われ、これら２つに、コロムビアからの22曲入りCDをあわせた３つが揃えば、80年代までにリリースされた筒美×平山コンビによる作品をすべて聴くことが可能になる。単独での完成度の高さにとどまらず、そういった意味でも存在価値のあるアルバムだけに、入手困難な状況にあることが惜しまれる。
