タツロー氏のヒストリーは、ここから始まりました。もちろん自費でリリースしたアルバムはコレ以前にもありましたが。

また思い出話になりますが、今から３０年前、大学時代このアルバムはよーく聞きました。当時の友人に面白いステレオ装置をもっていた奴がいました。その彼住まいは、タツロー氏と同じ練馬区でした。そのステレオ装置というのは、センターのヴォーカルを消すことができ、今で言うカラオケとしてその音源を録音や再生が出来るという代物でした。つまりこのシュガー・ベイブのアルバムを再生して、タツロー氏のボーカル部分を消し、私達の歌を録音することが出来たのです。面白かったなぁ。あのようなことが今のパソコンで出来たら面白いのにねぇ。

そのアルバムの中で一番のお気に入りは、｢雨は手のひらにいっぱい｣でした。それこそこの曲に関しては、何度も歌入れを繰り返しやった記憶があります。それほどわれわれの中では一番のお気に入りでした。
またまた思い出話でごめんなさい。なにせまともな音楽評論がカキコできないものですから。

その後、このアルバムが今のＪポップスに及ぼした影響力は計り知れないものがあります。私にとっての、第二のはっぴいえんどでは無いのでしょうか。そんなこというとタツロー氏やタツロー氏のファン方に怒られそうです。
でもＪポップスが好きな人は、先ずは聞いてみてください。

こんなに良質でわかりやすいポップスは今でもなかなかないのに、
当時は売れなかったらしいというのが不思議です。

山下達郎さんは、本当のアンダーグラウンドなミュージシャンだと思います。
そういう人の音楽がレンタル店や図書館で簡単に借りられるのはすごいことです。

達郎さんがこのアルバムの中で一番好きな曲と書いている「雨は手のひらにいっぱい」の冒頭の部分、
「跳ね上がる　水たまり
　よけて通ることもできずにいる僕は
　走り去る　バスの煙
　消えるのを見てる」

何かぐっときます。

このアルバムが（LPで）発売されたのは1975年。私は生まれてもいませんでした。もちろんシュガーベイブがリアルタイムで活動していた時期を経験したことはありません。だから色々と語れる訳じゃないのですが・・・
でも、20代前半の私が聞いても全く”古さ”を感じさせない、むしろ心地よくて押し付けがましくなく、そのうえおしゃれな曲ばかりです。
ジャケットデザインは最近の感じとは違って、ちょっと70年代テイスト強め（な気がする）なので、人によっては手を出しにくく感じるかもしれません。でも、同年代の人にぜひお薦めしたいな。最近自動車のCMにDOWN TOWNが使われていましたが、あれがなんとなく気になっていた人は聞いてみてください！！！！
