この作品が発売された頃、山下達郎はある雑誌のインタビューにこう答えている。
「機器がデジタルに変わり、アレンジやコーラスの音域まで変えてしまった。」
アナログ＝レコードからデジタル＝CDへ録音が変わり、前作ではどうしても納得する音で撮ることが出来ず、考えた答えがこれだったと思う。
本人会心の１枚はたちまちヒットとなった。そして、当時ラジオで山下氏は、「リスナーの皆さん、買って頂き、本当にありがとうございます」と出演する度に言っていた。
「音の職人」の苦悩から生まれた１枚。
現在では蒼氓が流れる機会が多いですが、私のおすすめは
「僕の中の少年」です。
当時-約15年前の本人の結論は、アレンジ、コーラスの音域を下げたこと。
今の技術であれば、この重厚なCDは生まれなかったと思います。

タイトルは初回盤帯のコピーより抜粋。

発売当時、LP盤では1~5曲目がA面、6曲目~9曲目がB面となっていた。
若々しくも時に無邪気な、明るい楽曲で愉しませてくれるA面と、
切なくも時に壮大に、しっとりと滋味のある楽曲で聴かせるB面の二部構成。
私はA面を聴き終えてからの、B面の流れが特にお気に入りだ。

最後「僕の中の少年」のコーダを聴き終えれば、何とも言えない感慨が聴き手の胸をよぎる。
軽い喪失感と共に、それを悲しむことは無い、と呼び掛ける仄かな温もりが我々を包む。

言葉では的確に表せない感情を、山下達郎はこのアルバムに乗せて、我々の心に届けてくれる。

静かな環境でじっくりと、自分自身と向き合うようにして聴きたい作品。
未聴の方は是非、全ての音が鳴り終わった後の余韻にも身を委ねて頂きたい。
きっと、心の中にある煌きを、力強く揺さぶってくれることだろう。

　信販会社のCMにも使われた、蒼氓(そうぼう)という曲も入っています。

　個人的にはこの曲が一番好きです。

　全体的にどの曲もよくできていて、はずれはありません。

　重複していない曲も多く、このアルバムを買わないと聞けない曲も多いのでは？
