異論はあるだろうが、僕はこれが達郎サウンドのピークと言い切ってしまう。冒頭「Jody」の頭の音には、前作「For You」の冒頭のギター･カッティングほどのインパクトはないものの、そのJodyを含めて、収録された楽曲は粒ぞろいで中だるみなし。最後（昔風にいえばB面ラスト）に収められたのは、日本人なら誰でも知っている名曲「クリスマス・イブ」だが、このアルバム発売当時には、全く注目されなかった。しかし、その名曲をさしおいて、僕の一番のお気に入りは「あしおと」-というといつも変な顔をされる。

これぞ山下達郎の最高傑作にして歴史的名盤間違いなし。詩、曲、構成。歌唱のどれをとってもまちがいナシ。８０年代の作品でありながらまったく古さを感じさせないどころか新鮮、エバーグリーンの魅力たっぷり。わたしは本番の冒頭に太陽のえくぼ、最後にＦＯＥＶＥＲマインをダビングしているまったく違和感ナシ。これがまさしく時を越えた
物の証明である。

大滝詠一の「ﾛﾝｸﾞﾊﾞｹｰｼｮﾝ」と並んで
我々の世代の青春時代に燦然と輝く日本のPOPSの金字塔にして
永遠のｴｳﾞｧｰｸﾞﾘｰﾝﾐｭｰｼﾞｯｸである。正に一時代を築いたと言って良い。
収録された各楽曲の良さは勿論、その曲順やｼﾞｬｹｯﾄの意匠までも
ﾄｰﾀﾙ作品として比類なき一枚。
今でこそ「ｸﾘｽﾏｽｲﾌﾞ」は老若男女を問わず知られた曲になったが
昔は若い仲間内でのｸﾘｽﾏｽのとっておきの1曲だった。その当時
全盛を極めていたOFF COURSEのｺｰﾗｽに対抗して一人ｱｶﾍﾟﾗで録音した
（一緒にやる仲間が自分にはいなかったから、といつか話していた）
というｺｰﾗｽﾜｰｸは見事という外ない。この名曲1曲で
稀代の傑作ｱﾙﾊﾞﾑのﾗｽﾄに鮮やかな大輪の華を添えるかの趣。
どれも想い出深い曲ばかりだが、ある結婚式で「ひととき」という曲を
PIANOで弾き語りをした友人がいて、実に感動的だった。
その結婚式は素晴らしく高貴で神聖で愛情溢れた式典に思えたものだが
素材としてのその楽曲が湛える深い慈愛によるものだと思う。
いろんな意味で個人的にも歴史的にも愛聴に値するﾏｽﾀｰﾋﾟｰｽである。
