　「フォーユー」、「メロディーズ」のような一本筋の通ったテンションを求めてはいけないのです。世はデジタル全盛。とっくの間にＣＤ時代へと移り変わっています。７４分を超える本アルバムは山下達郎という人のサービス精神と誠意が込められています。
　長い年月を経て改めて聞き直してみることをお薦めしたいアルバムです。過去の山下作品にとらわれず、聞いてみたときに何ともいえぬ味わいを醸し出してくれていることに気づきます。
　下手な流行歌は年月を経るごとに古びていくわけですが、このアルバムは違います。年月を経て新たな輝きを見つけることができる、そんな作品です。
　時代を超越した山下達郎ならではの職人技は、ここにも生きています。

「いつか晴れた日に」は珍しく屈折を感じさせる曲。地味で
緻密なアレンジの端々に、しっとりとネガティブさが漂っています。
　この微妙なネガティブさにしっぽりはまっているのが、松本隆の詞。
歌いだしの「雨は斜めの点線」という言葉がこの曲のトーンを決定づけ、
支配しています。

　いつも食べられるわけじゃないけど、たまに食べるからおいしい。そんな印象を受ける山下達郎。透き通った声、絶妙のアレンジ、ラジカセでもキレイになるように調整された音質。それがどれも一級品としての条件を軽々と満たしている。
　素晴らしい職人芸にひたれること間違いなし。でも乱用は危険です。
