交響曲をピアノ曲で聴くのはどんなものかと思っていたが、非常にわかりやすく、演奏者の意図が明確に伝わり、なかなかのものでした。
ピアノ編曲版でもオーケストラに引けを取らない表現力を出しているのは、さすがKatsarisという感じでした。

ピアノ版の第二楽章はしんみりとした雰囲気で原曲以上の素晴らしい演奏です。

ベートーベンの交響曲５番「運命」がフランス革命など、時代の大きな流れ・変化そのもの(ナポレオン含む)を題材にしたものなら、７番は変えようのない運命、大きな波に飲まれそうな、それでもあがない、苦しみもがく一人の人間,まさに人の運命の内なる葛藤を表現した曲といえましょう。
この頃のベートーベンは梅毒で、耳が聞こえなくなり始めた頃なのか？愛する人と結ばれなかった苦しみか？メロディーを横取りしようとする輩に苦慮していたからか？
どれにしろ彼の運命、すなわち、内なる葛藤が作曲への動機でしょう。
特に第二楽章は耽美で、カッツアリスのピアノが、更に物悲しさを誘うので思わず涙がこみ上げてきそうになります。
編曲したF.リストは当時ピアニストとして素晴らしいテクニックで一世を風靡した天才で、作曲家としても超１流です。単なる編曲の域から脱した一作に仕上げています。
交響曲よりスケールの大きさは劣りますが、切なさや感情の細かな表現はむしろこちらの方が上でしょう。
私はいやな事があった時、このCDを聴くと気持ちがやわらぎます。
もう１つの変奏の方も、リスト版がシンプルに聴こえる位凝った秀作です。
録音はずいぶん前ですが、デジタル録音で非常にクリアーです。是非交響曲版と聞き比べてください。

「リズムの聖化」と呼ばれる７番は少々キツイか・・・。特に３楽章は安定しすぎで、置きにいってる感じがする。そのまま４楽章になだれ込むが、この最難箇所はカツァリスは豪放磊落のごとく、猛々しい勢いで弾いている。カツァリスのメカニカル的なヴィルトゥジティの特徴として、低音部の力強さ(トレモロ）が確実であると言う事が感じられた。その他の交響曲に比べて、この７番は少々大変だっただろうな。
シューマンの練習曲集はテクニック的には難しい面があるが、統一的には？・・・。交響的練習曲や９番の一楽章が聞こえてきて、終わりもしっくりこなく、謎のみが残る・・・。シューマンの意図が知りたいものである。
