4.0 out of 5 stars 悲しすぎる「葬送行進曲」, 2005/8/1
　この「エロイカ」も、全曲集の中の1枚。
こちらも「田園」と同様、原曲のイメージを損ねないように弾かれていて、とてもいい。
　「エロイカ」のタイトルどおり、堂々とした曲調をもった両端楽章もいいけど、それ以上に印象的だったのが、第2楽章の葬送行進曲だ。
　この楽章は、原曲のオケバージョンだと、速めのテンポで演奏されることが多いのだが、カツァリスは、かなり遅めのテンポで弾いている。
　オケバージョンと同じくらい、速いテンポで弾くと、軽薄な印象を受けてしまうが、遅めのテンポで弾くことで、この曲の持つ、沈痛で重苦しい気分が、前面に押し出される。
　わたしも、この演奏を聴いていて、気分が沈みこんだほどだった。
　心身ともに疲れているときには、聴けないかも･･･。

カツァリスのベートーヴェン＝リスト編曲の交響曲は、どれも素晴らしい出来映えだと思います。
この「英雄」交響曲は、私も２２年前にライヴで聞き、大感激した演奏そのものです！　あの感動をこのようにＣＤで、しかもロープライスで聞けるのは、うれしい限り。
ピアノファンだけでなく、ベートーヴェンの交響曲が好き〜という人にも、一度は是非お聞きいただきたいカツァリスのベートーヴェンです。

ピアノで管弦楽曲を表現するのは確かに難しいんですけど、リストの譜面を少しいじってますが、シンフォニー的効果を出すため・・・と考えています。

彼の演奏はまず綿密な楽譜検証から始まる。特にリスト編曲はオケをできるだけ再現しようと聞き手を惹く、様々な趣向が施されている。総合的に見れば、第九、第五"運命"に次ぐ出来ばえである。無論、他の編曲シリーズの部類と比較すれば群を抜いており、音響・テンポと共に聴き応えある演奏である。第1楽章の威容ある大胆さ、重厚な葬送行進曲を経て、軽やかだが音は堅固なスケルツォ、なだれ込む勢いの最終楽章。英雄の気高さ、堂々さをピアノ一台で表現した演奏は逞しく、素晴らしい。
