8曲目の"Wise Up"はマグノリアの中で主要登場人物全員が口ずさむという形で挿入されます。初めて観たときは、全員が口ずさむなんてロマンチックすぎると思ってましたが、この曲は公開の2年前、1996年に"Jerry Maguire"（邦題は「ザ・エージェント」）で使われてます。2年前のヒット映画の楽曲なら、普通の米国人が歌えて決してもおかしくないわけですね。さらに「ザ・エージェント」の主演はトム・クルーズで、彼はマグノリアの主要登場人物の一人。よく考えられてるんだなと改めて感心しました。

Aimee Mannの素晴らしさについては、多くを語る必要はないでしょう。太くしっかりした声なのに、敢えてささやくように歌う"Wise Up"の歌い方がとても優しく響くので、自分の一番のお気に入りです。他の曲ももちろんよいですよ。

~エイミーの曲の歌詞には深い深~い意味を感じます。哲学的で現実的。Save Me や　Wise up そして　Driving Side~~ Ways．それぞれに今の弱い自分を見つめ直して現実を見つめることを促すメッセージが込められている様に感じます。でも決して押し付けがましくならず淡々と胸に響きました。苦しいときに、そして、ただ慰めてもらってもその苦しさが収まらないときに、ぜひ聞いてみてください。~

監督ポール・トーマス・アンダーソンも言っているように、エイミー・マンの曲から映画「マグノリア」はインスパイアされたものである。そのことがひしひしと感じられる傑作サントラであり、名曲揃いである。「Wise Up」などは鳥肌が立つのと同時に、自然と映画の場面までがくっきりと頭に浮かぶほどである。それはあのミュージカルとも言えるあの場面である。映画のラストのカットからストーリーが生まれたそうで、そこで流れる「Save Me」は、悲しくも前向きなラブソングと言っても過言ではないだろう。エイミー・マンの類い稀なる才能にノックアウトされ、同時に傑作「マグノリア」の映像をも思い出させるほどのこの傑作サントラを御一聴あれ。ちなみにオリジナルスコア版もオススメです。

エイミー・マンのアルバムも言ってよいほど、彼女の曲が使われている。映画は演出も演技も大仰だったけど、音楽は繊細で慎み深く、独立したアルバムとして素晴らしい。
