多彩な顔をもつ人だが、アレンジャーとしての手腕に最も惹かれるものがある。本作は南部の独特なマナーを感じさせつつ、ポップ・ロック寄りのアプローチも感じられ、ロック系のリスナーにもすんなりと聴くことができる仕上がりだ。ボーカルスタイルもその一因である。夕日を眺める老人と犬がジャケットに描かれているが、これは表題曲の歌詞の中に出てくる老人と犬であろう。この雄大でやさしくそして切ない気持ちにさせるこの曲のなかで「老人と犬が　とぼとぼ歩いていく　彼がゆっくりと歩けば　誰もが彼の冷たい手を握り　しだれ柳も歌いだす　木の中に宿る　こうした多くの不思議が　夜の南部の空に揺れている」と歌われている。歌詞は後で知ったが、この素晴らしいアレンジが施されたこの音に触れれば十分風景や場面が目に浮かぶ真の名曲だ。この曲がこのアルバムの中で、いごごちのいい場所に収まり、またそのエレメントがあちらこちら散りばめられている味わい深い素敵なアルバムだ。

久しぶりにトゥーサンを聴いた。
このアルバムは何故か深く深く聴いてしまい、目をつぶって聴いていると自分の心の奥と言うか遠くへ彷徨っているような感覚になる。
聴き終われば心が洗われた気がして、とても気持ちの良いものである。
このアルバムは一人で静かに聴くものと決めている。味わい深いアルバムである。

レコードではＡＢ面の切り替え時に素晴しく印象的で美しい「サザンナイトのテーマ」が挟み込まれていて、この美しいアルバムを素晴しく彩ってくれたなぁ･･･と思い出す。
多彩なひと、という印象は強いがメロディメーカー・詩人としても忘れ得ない。ジェリーガルシアに贈った「I`ll Take a Melody」久々に聞きたいなぁ、とＣＤ蔵を漁って聞きなおしてみたりした。
このひとは恐ろしいほどの醒めた視点と、ごく品のいい紳士的な優しさを持ち合わせた人だ。
What Do You Want the Girl to Do.「彼女はバカじゃないよ？彼女は心を開いて、健気に待っているんだよ。きみが風を受けてふらふらと舞っている時にも。なぁ、彼女にどうして欲しいんだい？(意訳）」･･･胸が痛くなる。
