ボサ・ノヴァを生んだ二人の天才。Joao GilbertoとAntonio Carlos Jobim。精神的に不安定でおかしな逸話の多いJoao Gilberto比べ、Antonio Carlos Jobimは大人しく真面目すぎる性格だったためか、あまり語られることがありません。彼の存在が作曲家としてのThe BeatlesのJohn Lenon、Paul McCartneyや米国のGeorge Gershwinに匹敵すると言われていることを考えると、ちょっと不思議なくらいです。
このCD聴いて驚いた。Antonio Carlos Jobimと言えば、言わずと知れた「イパネマの娘」で有名な「ボサノヴァの父」なんだけれども、そんな彼が1976年に出したこの『Urubu』は、彼のディスコグラフィーの中でもかなりの異色作と言われる１枚。
プロデュースとアレンジはClaus Ogermanというジャズ畑の人で、Jobimの音楽が世界に出てゆくきっかけになったイージー・リスニング・ジャズのアレンジャーでもあった人物。
このアルバムは、実質的にこのOgermanとJobimとの共作と言っても良いもので、歌もの4曲、Jobimの歌どころか演奏さえ入っていないオーケストラによるインスト4曲という変則的な構成になっている。
よくぞここまでというぐらいボサノヴァの定型的なイメージを裏切ってくれるこのアルバムだが、同時にボサノヴァの本質をハードコアに突き詰めた結果でもあるのだろう。
音楽的レベルの高さはもちろん、そうした枠組み的なところも含めて、芸術運動としての初期ボサノヴァが持っていたポテンシャルエネルギーに改めて目を見張る思いがした。流石、Antonio Carlos Jobim である。これはお薦め、是非お聴きください。

美しく優雅なストリングス、ボサノバ抜けしたJobimの飾らない歌声。
特にTr2 Ligia の繊細で耽美的なコード進行と、オーケストレイションの奥行き、そして寂しげなJobimの歌は、琴線に触れるのです。
　彼自身、作曲は自然の中でインスピレーションを授かると言っています。その自然へのリスペクトがサウンドに顕れていて、すがすがしいのです。

自費を投じて完成させたジョビンの傑作。
ジョビンのアイディアに基き、
オガーマンの精細な筆致で書かれた
弦のアレンジが素晴らしい。
尋常ではない量の揺らぎを含み持つ
ジョアン・パルマのドラムスにも注目。
演奏でのジョビンは、ヴィオラォン
（ギター）を離れ、
歌と、最も親しい楽器であったろう
ピアノ(Rhodes)に集中している。

このアルバムと「matita pere」は
どうにも兄と妹(helena)を想起させる。

ジョビンの他のインストのアルバムと違い、ボサノヴァという括りだけではない傑作。廃盤になっているそうなので、是非復刻して再評価してほしい。
