星５つ以外選び様の無い、マシンヘッドと並ぶパープルの
頂点的アルバム。タイトル曲の気合も入りまくってます。
でも、今回のソロバトルの軍配はジョン・ロードでしょうねー。

基本的なスタイルはそのままに、音楽の幅をファンク、ソウル
方面まで広げられたのは、やはり新規加入の二人の実力でしょうか。

リッチー、ロード、ペイスのプレイも冴え渡っています。

一曲目超有名です。聞いた瞬間、どっかで聞いたことあると思うんじゃないでしょうか。この一曲だけでも聞く価値はあります。すべてのパートが思う存分暴れてます。曲自体もよく最高です。そのあとはこれまでのパープルとは一味違ったソウルフルでポップな曲が続きます。曲の完成度が全体的に高く聞きやすいです。７曲目のミストリーテッドはデビッドカバーデールの歌声を堪能できる超名曲です。

中学3年当時、ビートルズしか知らなかった僕にとって、「Ｂｕｒｎ」をラジオで聴き、世の中には、こんなカッコイイ曲があったのか、と感動しました。それ以来パープル、ツェッペリンにはまっていった、僕のハードロック初体験となる、思い出深い曲です。当時は何て、ギターが早く弾けるんだろうと、絶句しました。ビートルズしかしらないんだもの（笑）。さて、これはベースのロジャー　グローバーと、ヴォーカルのイアン　ギランが脱退しての新生パープルの再出発アルバムとなったもの。ベースのグレン　ヒューズもヴォーカルをとるため、ヴォーカルパートに広がりがでています。デヴィッド　カバーデルは、ギランの後だけに心配されたのですが、どうしてどうして、良くマッチしています。曲としてはやはり「Ｂｕｒｎ」が最高。あのリフ、ドラムのフィル、ギターソロ、ギターとオルガンのユニゾンリフ、オルガンソロ、と何一つ文句なし。絶対買いです。
