ジャクソンブラウンは感性の鋭い人だ。そんな感性が音の隅々から溢れている。悩める人の佇みは無垢な響きとともに、なんらかの痛みを共有させるものがある。痛みといえどもどこか甘みを伴うものであるため、名盤と語られることの要因であろうか。本作は、個人的になんらかのイベントの後によく聴いた。例えば夏祭りや文化祭など・・賑やかで心に残るエピソードを一つや二つ残したこれらの記憶を特別なものにしてくれた。高揚した時間の後のあの独特の寂しさ切なさにとてもハマるアルバムだ。このクールダウン感？がいい。内容としても生命力のある歌声とともに青春の葛藤とかが憂いを含むメロディで切々と歌われている。ウエストコーストロックに興味があるなしにせよ、一度は聴いてみてほしい作品だ。

ジャクソン・ブラウンの最高傑作というだけではなく、70年代を代表する名盤。1曲目の超名曲バラード「レイト・フォー・ザ・スカイ」から泣かせてくれます。サウンドはいたってシンプルなのですが、ジャクソン・ブラウンの歌唱力がフルに生かされいて、何もこのアルバムに限ったことではないですが(そう、ジャクソン・ブラウンの曲はどれもそう)聴いていて自然と「優しい気持ち」になることができます。まだ聴いたことがない人は是非一度聴いて確かめてみて下さい。

これ、しみじみ来ますねぇ。なんか癒されながらも心がざわつくというか、そのまま心の中に染み入ってくる感覚で、心臓が少しドキドキしてきます。メロディー、歌詞、演奏、テンポ、ジャクソン・ブラウンの声、ジャケットまでが調和して胸に迫り来ます。サウンド的には70年代後半以降のパシっとした音ではなくて、暖か/穏やかだが隙もあるサウンド。2なんかは穏やかな典型的なWest Coastサウンドなんですが、美しいコーラスの後で、「Fountain Of Sorrow」のフレーズが際立つところなんぞ、鳥肌もんです。地味ながら「70's West Coatのシンガーソングライター」といえばこの1枚です、といえる傑作。(
