1995年、米国で彼のライブに行った。頭がはげてきてたが、広い会場に超満員の老若男女がジェイムス！、JT！の連呼で、本当に米国国民に広く愛されたシンガーなのだと思い知った。

JTはキャロル・キング、エルトン・ジョンとともにシンガーソングライターの御三家。デビュー曲のアップル盤の「想いでのキャロライナ」のシングルが実家にあったが、10年前、米国でこれを口ずさんだら、周囲がみんな知ってた。米国を代表する、フォーク・ギター一本かかえて、シンプルだが美しいメロデイーと純粋なたましいで、愛や友情をうたう貴重なシンガーだったのだ。

ミリオンシングル「ファイア・アンド・レイン」は映画「タイタンズを忘れない」でも脚光。 もうひとつの大ヒット「きみの友だち」は女友達のキャロル・キング作品。エレキにもちかえることもあり（最近の日本の女性シンガーYUIはJTに少しにている）、ライブの最後にうたう「スチームローラーブルース」がちゃんとラストを飾っている。

日本ではエルトン人気に隠れましたが、心の癒しや懐かしさをもとめるかたにうってつけ、そして７０’Sファンにはよだれのでる黄金の一枚です。星６つ！！！
