5.0 out of 5 stars 奇跡がアルバムになった名作, 2002/7/13
　前編がたった一日のセッションで作られたという信じられないアルバムでしかし異常な盛り上がりに満ちている。ヴァンの才能を凝縮したような作品であることは間違いない。歌詞も文学的で深い悲しみをたたえている。

　コニー・ケイやリチャード・ディヴィスなどジャズの演奏家が多く参加しているからか、一曲一曲が繊細で幽玄な境地に達している。ジョン・ペインのフルートもいい味を出している。そしてヴァンの歌は時におだやかで時にすさまじく、聴いていて鳥肌が立つ。何度聞いても飽きないロックアルバムは少ないが、これはその少ないアルバムのうちの一つであり続けるだろう。

全曲が名曲の見事なアルバム。ヴァン・モリソンの基盤が
ソウルであることは疑いがありませんが、本作ではこれに
加えて、アイルランドがルーツ（？）の個性的な作曲、
ジャズの要素による味付け、題材（歌詞）のバラエティーの豊富さと
見るべきところがたいへん多いように感じます。

商業路線に乗った作品群ではないので、「渋すぎてつまらない」と

思う方もいるかもしれませんが、大人の鑑賞に堪えうる
名盤であると思います。

5.0 out of 5 stars ヴァンモリソンの最高作にしてロック史上不滅の最高傑作。, 2003/12/5
ジャンルなどはどうでもいい。これほど深い感動を味わえる音楽に出会うのは多いことではない。永遠に聴き継がれるに違いないアルバム。
まずタイトル曲のフルートの出現に驚かされ、続くbeside youで熱情をギリギリの処でセーブしながら歌うヴァンの歌は、控えめでしかし精緻なギターとフルートの前で心地よい抑揚が聴かれる。３曲目ではストリングスが加わる。この辺からベースが重要な位置に揚がってくる。そして４曲目、なんて云う楽器だろうか、森の木漏れ日のように降り注ぐ光のようにヴァンの声に明るい情感を添える。そして後半へと突入する。ドラム、ブラスがさらに加わり、あふれるような恋心が迸る。演奏はエキサイトしてくる。一転６曲目はまるで恋が成就したように明るくゆったりとした落ち着きに満ちている。がballerinaではラストの曲に向かって再び盛り上ろうとしている。そして静かに最後の曲は燃え尽きる。
