これを購入するのであれば・・・・本作の欧州盤である「ハート・オブ・シカゴ」（日本の発売名）がお勧め、本作の曲に加え、４曲が加えられた、まさに、彼女と聞くにはこの上ないほどの選曲、バラードのオンパレード！「バラード・オブ・シカゴ」と言ってもいいほど、この選曲で私も思わず購入したひとりです。バラードバンドとしてのシカゴがお好きなのであれば、この一枚さえ、あればというものです。この中での私のお勧めは「You're The Inspiration」です。まだの方はじっくりとお試しを・・・

個人的には、日々邦楽ばかりと接し洋楽に関しては「この曲が好き」というのはあっても「このアルバムが好き」というケースは稀だ。日本独特のメロディーラインが好きだと言うのに起因しているようだが、シカゴ、特に８０年代のシカゴに限っては、意外な程お気に入りの曲が多い、因ってそれが惜しみなく収録されている本盤が個人的名盤に値する。

聞けばシカゴは２０年以上に及ぶ歴史を持つらしい。元々[hard to say I'm sorry]が好きな曲だったのが切欠だった。７０年代のベストに当初手を出して音楽性が随分違うなとがっかりしたが、改めて本盤を見つけ聞きなおした時、本当に感動した。上記の曲のような、キーボードを駆使したデジタル楽器と共に美しい旋律を伴うバラードが実に多い。加えて、感傷的なメロディーが多いのも洋楽には珍しく自ずと個人的名盤になった。

ボーカルの声質もアダルトな魅力を湛えており、そのような美しいサウンドに輪をかけているようだ。一部では、この時代のサウンドは商業主義、所謂「売れ線」に走った結果だと揶揄されたりもするが、個人的にはそのプロセスがどうであれ、結果オーライだと思う。この珠玉のバラードは正に８０’サウンドだし、一聴の価値は必ずある。併せて当時のプロモも見ると渋いシカゴのバラードを再認識させられる。
