名曲とはえてしてシンプル、単純なものである。Guns and RosesのアクセルがAC/DCのWhole Lotta Losieを「踊り狂わずにはいられない」と評していたが、8は正にその言葉を彷彿とさせてくれた。エルヴィスプレスリーの原曲を聴いてみたが、単純なコピーでなく見事に自分たちの世界に引きずり込んだ名アレンジだと実感。ヘヴィメタル・ヘヴィロックの世界ではどうしてこう気持ちの良いカヴァーが多数できるのか本当に感心してしまう。とにかくこの8を聴くためだけにこれを購入する価値が充分にある。もちろんZZ Topが積み重ねてきた他の歴史を軽んじるものでは決してないが、とにかく8には爽快にぶっ飛ばされてしまうのみ。これをきっかけにZZ Topワールドへ飛び込んでみるのはいかが？

数年前、某自動車メーカーのCMでその豪快なプレイを日本中に見せたZ・Z・トップ。
1971年のデビューからテキサスのローカル色の強いロックを売り物にし、その後、
まわりの意表を突いたテクノロジーサウンドから使用し
完全無欠のアメリカンロック・エンターテイメントの王座に登りつめたZ・Z・トップが
デビュー20周年を記に発表したBESTアルバムです。

彼らは常に、長い髭、回転ギター、そのストーリー性溢れたPVで常に話題になるが、
その音楽も豪快、痛快、爽快の三拍子がそろっており、
どの曲をとっても素晴らしい出来といえる。

Z・Z・トップは日本ではあまりなじみが無いが、本国アメリカでの人気は絶大なものでライブでは連日満員御礼といった感じである。。

１９７０年に結成されてから今日まで解散せずに活動を続けている有名な長寿バンド。ルックスはもさいおっさんぽいが、ギターの切れ味は実にシャープだ。テキサスのバンドはガッツがあり男気があり無骨なサウンドを聞かせる。トラック運転手のかたがたに受けそうな豪快なブギー＆ブルーズロックが売り。

このアルバムはブレイクした８０年代＝ＭＴＶ戦略にうまくのりプロモ戦略でヒットを連発していた時代をとりあえずとらえている（完全に総括しているわけではないが）。ベストおよびコンピレーションはあちらでは合計６枚リリースされていてるが、７０年代のコンピレーションアルバム＝『THE BEST OF ZZ TOP』　とこれを合わせて聴けばとりあえずバンドのおおまかな全体像はつかめる。そういう意味ではこのバンドをプロファイルする場合には初心者には有効であると思われる。
９０年代にはいり彼等は残念ながら停滞期に入ってしまった。
