Z・Z・トップ9枚目のスタジオ・アルバムはまさに時代のムードをとらえている。MTVの創設まもない頃にリリースされた、テキサス出身の3人組のおどけた力強い歌は、音楽チャンネル初期の中心的な存在になった。世間は、テキサスの女性が皆ジェリー・ホールみたいなのだと、1983年の現実とはそう違わないことを感じさせられたものだ。たとえ完全に正確でなかったとしても、彼らの音楽は、聴く者を、車と女性の両方がスピーディーでお手軽な世界に連れて行ってくれた。ビル・ギボンズのうなるようなギターが、若い頃のヘンドリックスのような猛スピードでいくつもの曲を突進する。歌詞はちょくちょく不出来なこともあるが、Z・Z・トップの原動力にやられてしまう楽しさを考えたら、すべて許せてしまう。「Gimme All Your Loving」（邦題「ギミ・オール・ユア・ラヴィン」）、「Legs」（邦題「レッグス」）、皮肉でダイナミックな「Sharp Dressed Man」（邦題「シャープ・ドレスト・マン」）はラジオで大ヒットしたが、ほんとうに珠玉の作品といえるのは「I Got the Six」（邦題「アイ・ガット・ザ・シックス」）や、同じく大げさな「Bad Girl」（邦題「バッド・ガールズ」）では、フランク・ベアードの興奮を生むドラム、ダスティ・ヒルのしっかりしたベースがみごとだ。『イリミネイター』（原題『Eliminator』）は、荒々しいこの一団が、自身の基本的なブギーを押し進めて名人になっていった最初の時期を示してもいる。そして、初期のファンにはがっかりした人もいるだろうが、ほんとうのところ、この新しい洗練された感じは、Z・Z・トップに精妙さと奥深さを加えている。（Jaan Uhelszki, Amazon.com）

ベテランロックバンド、Z.Z.TOPの9作目。テキサス出身でブギーロックというとてもレガシーな泥臭い路線でありながら、80年代の潮流であるシンセサウンドを取り入れて成功した非常に珍しいケースの作品です。シンセも次作Afterburnerほどでなく、ブルージーなオーバードライブギターとシンプルな楽曲に奇妙にバランスしています。このバランスと手の込んだプロモビデオで大ヒットにつながったと思われます。単純に時流に乗るのではなく、長い経験で地力があるから曲に説得力があるんですね。

83年発表のZZトップの全米ミリオンセラーアルバム。しかし日本でのレコード発売当時は私の田舎のショップにはもちろんなく、大都市名古屋の大手レコードショップでさえ取り寄せなければありませんでした。その後このアルバムから痛快な秀作ビデオクリップがつぎつぎと発表され知名度がアップ。彼らの外見からの泥臭いイメージとは違ってずっと以前からハードなギターとエレクトロニクスを融合させてきた彼らの最高傑作だと思います。ビデオクリップなしではあそこまでヒットしなかったとは思いますが（いったい日本ではどの位売れたんでしょうか？）、どの曲をとってもハードでポップで最高に気持ちいいです。ドライブにもってこい！！

豪快なサウンドが持ち味の、彼らの最高傑作だと思う。ハードロックやブルースロックを取り入れた南部の力強さが前面に出ている名盤です。
