ここ最近、オリジナルＣＤがドッと再発されて、ジャズ･シンガーとしての再評価も高まってきたジョニー･ソマーズだが、戦後、日本で親しまれてきた「内気なジョニー」を始めとするジョニー･ソマーズの歌がいっぺんに聴けるものは、このベストアルバムだ。当時のオールディーズ、ガールポップの中でも、一際元気一杯で聴いていて、楽しい気分にさせてくれる歌声を持っていたのがジョニー･ソマーズだと思う。少しハスキーな歌声だが、歌のうまさとかわいさがうまくブレンドされていて、あの時代のガールポップ・シンガーの中でも、比類することのできないオリジナリティを持っていると思う。ジャズボーカリストとしての彼女が好きな方には、もろオールディーズな曲調とアレンジのこれらの作品は古臭いということになるのかもしれないが、僕はこのあっけらかんとした笑顔いっぱいのジョニーも大好き。もし当時、自分が生まれていたら、かなりのコアなファンになっていたと思う。今ですら、当時の日本盤シングルは欲しいと思う。赤盤とかね。
