フォークの泉谷が、ロックの泉谷へ移行した２発め。
前作「光石の巨人」に引き続き、エレクトリックを本格的にはじめた作品。

録音はハワイで実施。写真を見た限りでは、炎天下、汗をかきながら、声の限りにシャウトしたのであろう様子。その熱いメッセージは、米国全盛期の鋼鉄と火とオイルの重工業都市のならず者を思わせる。泉谷いわく「エレクトリックだけれどアコースティックなんだ」という言葉のとおり、エレクトリックに依存しないボーカルのパワーは、後期においてチャボらと組んだユニットよりも、明らかにハイパワー。ロッカーとしての泉谷に興味のある人は、どーしても聴いておいてほしい１作。

加藤和彦、吉田建、島村英二、柴山和彦、中西康晴ら名うてのメンツをバックに、ハワイ録音の１９７８年作品。解説の詩人・中山容の言葉を引用するならば「あのたくましく、しかしさびしげな肉声は変わっていない。むしろはるかに強く自信に満ちている。以前のやや破壊的でせっかちな焦燥感がなくなり、声そのものに一層深いエロチシズムを感じた」・・・とういような、今までのハード・フォーク、コミック・フォークから、詩も音のクオリティも格段にレベルアップした、日本のロックのエポックメイキングともいえるアルバム。

オープニングにふさわしい最高のロックナンバー1にしろ3にしろ、詞だけではなんのこっちゃさっぱりわからんのだが、とにかく、都会で暮らす苛立ちや、やりどころのないエネルギーの噴出する様は、感覚的に映像的にビシビシ伝わってくる。静かに激しく燃える青い焔のような7や止め処なく迸る泉のような9にしても同じく、静かな音像の中で、揺らぐ事のない何か確かな手応えをつかんだものだけが表現できる真実のようなものが伝わってくる。泉谷しげるの静かなる激情。
