まだ、フュージョンっていう言葉もなかった時代の素晴らしいアルバムです。特にトミー・ボーリンとヤン・ハマーは凄げ~。
これジェフ・ベックがBB＆A時期、車の移動中にカセットで聴きまくったそうです。その後のジェフの展開は万人の知るところ。でもトミー・ボーリンもギター・フレーズにとってもベック・ライクなところがあってなんか似てます。
でもボーリン必殺のエコー・プレックスを駆使したギョワワ~んの切り込みから始まる宇宙大回転プレイは全世界のギターフレーズ上の歴史に残る暴挙。

Billy Cobhamの1973年のソロ・デビュー作。
メンバーはBilly Cobham (ds)、Tommy Bolin (g)、Jan Hammer (key)、Leland Sklar (b)、他。
Billy Cobhamの手数の多い超人的なプレイもさることながら、Jan HammerとTommy Bolinのバトルとも言うべきプレイの応酬に聴き入ってしまう。
Tommy Bolinは2年後にDeep Purpleに参加し、Purple最後のギタリストとして名盤『Come Taste the Band』で渋みきったプレイを披露するが、このアルバムでの鋭いプレイには及ばない。
Jeff Beckをギター・インストへの道に進ませるきっかけとなったと言われる重要作。

　このアルバムは、ビリーコブハムの本格的なソロとしてのアルバムであり、フュージョン界の名盤中の名盤です。僕自身、ジェフベックの大ファンであり、彼が影響を受けたということでビリーコブハムを知ったのですが、ジェフベックが諸に影響を受けたのが良く分かります。特にジェフベックがソロになってからの作品に顕著です。「ストレイタス」は、最近のジェフベックのライヴでもレパートリーになってきました。
　内容はというと、とても１９７３年に製作されたとは思えないモノばかりです。ビリーコブハムの唯一無二の乾いたドラムサウンド、トミーボーリン、ヤンハマーの宇宙感漂う感覚的なフレーズ・・・など聴き所満載です。
