最初から最後まで、ずっと怒ってます。
反戦や社会への怒り、そして孤独をテーマにした曲が多いあたり、
ハイロウズで言うとバームクーヘンとよく似た空気を感じます。

最近缶コーヒーのＣＭで流れて注目されている「１００１のバイオリン」は、
「仁義なき戦い」の故・深作監督が大好きで、
告別式でも使用された名曲ですが、
このアルバムには「１０００のバイオリン」として、
オリジナルバージョンが収録されています。
（「１００１〜」は弦楽器バージョン）
「トレイントレイン」や「リンダリンダ」と並ぶ、
ブルーハーツの代表作ですね。

小学生の時、私が初めて買ったＣＤがコレ。
ブルーハーツの中ではあまり有名じゃない方だと思うが、他の盤に劣るところは全くないと断言できる。
雰囲気的には、ストレートにトンガった感じが抜けて、比較的明るく、スマートな構成になっている。前知識がなくてもわかるほど、ザ・ハイロウズの曲風に移行していく感がある。

涙腺に直接訴えるようなインパクトの強い曲が入っていない分、１曲１曲が印象に残る。あえて特別を挙げるとすれば、「月の爆撃機」と「１０００のバイオリン」だ。今まで生きてきて、迷いも失敗もあったけれど、いつもナナメ上を向いて生きていこう。そんな、ポジティブな気分になれる。
常に聴いているわけではないが、ふとした拍子に聴きたくなる。聴き終えると、不思議と心が休まっている。そんな一枚。

ファンの間では1stと人気を二分するブルーハーツの６thアルバム。
個人的にはパンク色が強い1stよりも好きだったりする。
前作「HIGH KICKS」でデビュー前の名曲「TOO MUCH PAIN」を
引っ張り出さねばならなかったほど、行き詰まっていたといわれる
彼らの状況を打ち破ろうとする力に溢れている。

１曲目の「すてごま」からブッちゃけた歌詞と破壊力抜群の曲が
ステレオから飛び出してくる。ドラマ主題化となり、何度目かの
ブルーハーツ・ブームの火付け役となったシングル「夢」も
入っているので初心者にもオススメ。ギターのマーシーが歌う
「俺は俺の死を死にたい」の強いメッセージは、彼らの
ロックが信頼できる何よりの証拠だ。
だが、この作品の何よりの魅力はラスト２曲「月の爆撃機」と
「1000のバイオリン」だろう。
後のハイロウズにも通ずる、生きてることを楽しもうとする姿勢
がこの２曲に集約されているといっても過言ではない。

後にボーカル・甲本ヒロトはこの作品と、対になった次作
「DUG OUT」によってもう一度スタートを切ってみたかったと
語っているが、同時に、それによってブルーハーツの中でやることは
やりきってしまったとも語っている。
