感情が激しくぶつかってくるアルバム。痛いほどですが、引き込まれて聞き入ってしまいました。核をはじめ、泣き叫ぶようなブルースハープも圧巻です。

１０代の頃、このアルバムを聴くと率直に従来の内容とは違うと直感的に感じました、何か全体的にもの悲しい感じというか、とにかく聴いていて悲しい気持ちにとらわれていたので、当時はあまり聴きませんでした、しかし最近何気なく聴いて、このアルバムの奥深さ、尾崎の真価というか、今改めて聴いても新鮮に聴こえるこのアルバムのクオリティと尾崎の才能に感嘆するばかりです、個人的には、アルバム収録の「核」よりもマキシシングルの「核」のアレンジの方が好きですし、カップリングの「街角の風の中」は尾崎の優しい歌声が感じられ最も好きな名曲です、このアルバムに「太陽の破片」と「街角の風の中」の２曲を収録すれば、全体的アルバムのイメージが明るくなったと思いますが、それでも当時の尾崎の内面世界を描写する名作です

　レーベルを現EastWestに移籍、プロデューサーもキーボーディストの樫原伸彦になったことから全作品中唯一、サウンドが異なる。9分近い大作「核(CORE)」でスタートする全9曲。釈放後初のシングル「太陽の破片」は収録されていない。また、レーベルの違いにより、SONYのツアーでは殆ど演奏されておらず、知名度は確かに劣る。しかし、別にクオリティが劣るわけではない。

　異様な迫力に満ちた大作「核(CORE)」他、キーボードを中心とした芸術性の高いトラックは聴き応え十分だ。NYの乾いた音を封印した「・ISM」ははっきりしたメロディーで「自己」を表現しているし、幻想的なアレンジの「時」は当時、妹と二人で聴きまくった覚えがある。難解と言われる表題曲「街路樹」も、考えさせられる詞が個人的に好きだった。

　一番陽の当たらない時期なので、8cmシングル「太陽の破片」 c/w 遠い空(Single version)、12cmシングル「核(Single version)」 c/w 街角の風の中　…はいずれも入手困難。この際だから、シングル計4曲を追加収録した「完全版」として再リリースしてもらえないだろうか？　天国の尾崎は納得しないかもしれないけど。

　追伸：2009年、限定ではあるが、全音源を洩らさず収録した 街路樹(2枚組スペシャルエディション)(Blu-spec CD) が実現した。リマスターで断然音が良くなっている。これを機会に是非！
