60年代ムード漂うお洒落なコメディ。冒頭の、キャプシーヌのエレベーター内での変装シーン（黒いサングラスをかけた犯罪者が警部の奥様に大変身！）は何度見てもドキドキします。ヘンリー・マンシーニの音楽も見事に調和しており、おなじみ「ピンク・パンサーのテーマ」は誰もが知っている名曲ですね。また、劇中で歌われる挿入歌「Better Be Tonight」もエキゾチックでGOODです。ピーター・セラーズ、デイヴィッド・ニーヴン、ロバート・ワグナー、クラウディア・カルディナーレ、キャプシーヌ・・・それぞれの俳優の個性が素晴しく活きている。

某国の王女が所有する巨大なダイアモンド、“ピンクの豹”。その秘宝を狙った怪盗ファントムは、プリンセスを取り巻くフランス上流社会の紳士たちの中に紛れ込んで王女に接近する。一方ファントムを追跡していたパリ警視庁のクルーゾー警部は、ファントムの犯行を阻止するために、王女がバカンスを過ごすスキー場に乗り込む。・・・

ご存じ「ピンク・パンサー」シリーズの記念すべき第１作目です。この作品では、ファントムが主役となっていてクルーゾー警部は脇役扱いになっていますが、それでも美人の奥さんにめっぽう弱かったり、行く先々でドジを踏んだりと、笑わせてくれます。ファントムも気障なプレイボーイぶりを発揮するなど、悪役にもかかわらず憎めないキャラクターです。

私はどうもクルーゾー警部夫人の悪女ぶりが個人的に好きになれないので、この点数となりましたが、はちゃめちゃなドタバタコメディなので、思いっきり笑いたい人にはオススメします。音楽は『ムーン・リバー』や『小象の行進』などで有名な、ヘンリー・マンシーニ。小粋なジャズ風のコミカルで怪しげなメロディーで、映画を盛り上げています。
