レース映画を語る時、絶対に忘れてはいけない一本。
当時のレースシーンが良く分かるが、もちろんストーリーも面白い。
当時のレーサーがいかに一匹狼的存在だったかが分かって興味深い、また、悪役に徹したフェラーリがいい味をだしている、こういう役回りはフェラーリならでは。

また、主人公のチーム「ヤムラ」は当然ホンダがモデルであるが、実際に画面にうつる車はF１デビューしたてのマクラーレンである。
とにかくレースシーンは迫力の一言。公開当時、これを劇場で、しかもシネラマでみた人は幸せもの。

冒頭のモナコは言うに及ばす、オールド・スパ＆モンツアのオンボードカメラは圧巻。「グランプリ開催時に」カメラカーを走らせてこれらの映像を撮影した、というから今のＦ１を知る人間からすると口あんぐりなのですが、ブルース・マクラーレン、そしてグラハム・ヒルが至極自然に出演してセリフまでしゃべっとる・・・・まさに奇跡の映画としか言いようが無い。要するに６０年代のＧＰがそのまんま映画になった、とご理解頂けばよいと思います。

んじゃこれはドキュメンタリーですか？というと勿論さにあらず。どうしたことですか、このトシロー・ミフネの役回りは？もちろんソウイチロー・ホンダがモチーフとは言え、３０年後のＦＩＡ会長バレストルが「Ｆ１にイエローはいらん」と言ったのがウソのようなミフネの活躍。エンタテインメント面でも釘付けです。

さあ探しましょう。

60年代F1ファンには、たまらないシーンの目白押し。画面ところ狭しと走り回る当時のF1マシンに涙ものです。BRM、フェラーリ、ロータスなどなど････。当時のレースシーンの雰囲気を忠実に伝えます。また、当時のヒーロー、グラハム=ヒル、ジム=クラーク、ジャッキー=スチュワートなども姿を見せています。CGなしの撮影もリアリティーを伝えます。
