どこがコメディ？と思いつつみていると、最後には見事などんでん返し、それまでの、出演者のそれぞれの行動を思い返すたび、『にやり』としてしまいます。いったい誰と誰が『五人の仲間』だったのか。見終わった後に『やられた！』と思いました。何度も見たくなる作品です。是非、廉価版が出てほしいものです。

完全に騙されました。ギャンブルを題材にしたミステリーとしては、
名作『スティング』がありますが、個人的には本作『テキサスの五人
の仲間』の方がよかった。最高に面白かった、というか、騙される
快感とラストに全てが判明する「どんでん返し」の衝撃が心地よかった。
キャストの演技や演出もスゴイのは当たり前ですが、この映画で何より
スゴイのは脚本に尽きると思います。
本当に素晴らしい脚本。緻密に構築されたミステリー。
タイトルがすでに伏線となっているとは…。

最近のミステリー映画やホラー、サスペンスなどのジャンルには「どんで
ん返し」や「衝撃のラスト」を仕掛けたものが多いですが、そのどれも
が「ラストのためのラスト」であったり、「ただたんに驚きをもたらそう」
とするものばかりで辟易しているところに、『情婦』や『探偵スルース』、
そして本作『テキサスの五人の仲間』などを見直すと、それだけ優れて
いるかということがハッキリ分かります。

日本が世界に誇る映画監督の一人である黒沢明監督がこんなことを言ったこと
があるそうです。
「映画を撮りたいという者は、まず脚本を書け」
黒沢監督自身も下積み時代と呼ばれる頃は寝る間も惜しんでたくさんの脚本を
執筆したそうです。
映画の核の一つとして「脚本」の存在が希薄化しているこの時代に、この
映画の脚本の素晴らしさを見直し、映画界を盛り上げていってほしいです。

内容についての言及は避けますが、面白いです。西部を舞台にした賭け（ギャンブル）の話。

２０年ほど前の「私の好きなミステリー映画、サスペンス映画ランキング」的な本の上位にランクされていました。といってもそのランキングをした映画関係者、芸能人は当時でほとんど４０歳以上なので（水野晴男氏、淀川長治氏など）、２０年ほど前でさえ古い映画が多いという印象でしたが、、。

第一位が「第三の男」、第二位が「恐怖の報酬」だったと思います。
そして、「情婦(もちろんビリー・ワイルダー)」、「悪魔のような女(もちろん古い方)」に続いてこのテキサスの五人の仲間が、、、。

これだけの情報で見てみたい！と思う人と、そうでない人は別れるでしょう。

隠れた名作です。
