少林寺の長老８名が英知を寄せ合って完成させた最強の拳法・蛇鶴八拳。しかしある日長老達は失踪し，蛇鶴八拳の極遺書もなくなってしまった・・・ある時，街に現れた青年・徐英風は極遺書を持っているらしいという噂が流れた・・・英風に次々と襲いかかる拳法家達。まるで誰かを誘き出そうとするかのように極遺書をひけらかす英風の真の狙いは？長老達の失踪の謎とは？

ジャッキーチェンがコミックカンフーで人気を確立する以前の作品（１９７８年作）で，多少コメディタッチの部分もありますが，基本的には真面目なカンフー映画です。登場人物がやたら多くてストーリー的に煩雑だったり，編集も雑な部分があったりもします。ジャッキーもアイシャドー？が濃くてちょっと奇妙な風貌です。
しかしなんと言っても本作の見所は，若き日のジャッキーのキレのあるカンフーアクション。後に酔拳等で全開するコミカルな動きの片鱗も見られます。ジャッキーアクションのルーツを知るには不可欠な一作です。
余談ですが，笑拳の悪役や龍拳のキーパーソン役を演じたヤン・サイクーン，同じく龍拳でヒロインを演じたノラ・ミャオなど，お馴染みの顔が脇役で登場します。香港カンフー映画界の世間の狭さ？が垣間見られて微笑ましいです。

この映画の日本公開のときの主題歌「デンジャラス・アイズ」が聞きたいがために購入したのに・・
当時のレコードのB面に入っていた「ムーンレスナイト」も当然なし・・・
失敗しました・・・　事前に確認とか出来ないもんでしょうか？？
