この映画は、俳優・演出・音楽・映像すべてにおいてこれまでにない華やかさとそしてなによりもシェイクスピアの古典世界を十分に堪能できます。まだ観たことがない方は是非一度ゆっくり観てみてください。（４時間の長編です）父の復讐・母への絶望、ハムレットの悲しみ、怒りをケネス・ブラナーは見事に演じています。そして、ケイト・ウィンスレット演じるオフィーリアの死。
狂気、そして人生の儚さの物語です。

この映画で、すっかりシェークスピアとケネスにハマってしまいました。言葉あのもつエネルギーが、私の魂に響いたというのでしょうか。ハムレットの苦悩する様子もそのため息も全てに感動しました。シェークスピアに忠実にそして、派手な演出や、いわゆるハリウッド風なエコーの聞きすぎた、音楽でのごまかしは、なし。劇でありそれを映画にしたという感じです。四時間は充実したものでした。とにかく、圧倒されてしまった映画です。これを一週間くらい、毎日見てしまいました。古典として、立派な作品ですが、かび臭くなく、また、ケネスの演技はもちろんですが、言葉の美しさ、パワー、リズム、それは、とにかくすばらしかった。

なぜこの作品を観たかというとﾌｫｰﾃｨﾝﾌﾞﾗｽ役の彼が好きだから｡不純でした｡
しかし4時間､確かに長かったけれど飽きることなく最後まで見れました｡ｾｯﾄがまず豪華､出演者達のしっかりした演技で引きこまれてしまいました。

贔屓目かもしてませんが、ﾙｰﾌｧｽ.ｼｰｳｪﾙの誇り高い様子。ﾊﾑﾚｯﾄのうらやむ名誉にかける情熱がよく出ていたと思います。苦悩するﾊﾑﾚｯﾄとの対比が見事でした。
後にｼｪｲｸｽﾋﾟｱの全集でﾊﾑﾚｯﾄを読みましたが、原作にとても忠実なのに驚きました!
