80年代にジャパニーズ・ロックシーンを盛り立てたアーティストたちの曲を、現在活躍しているバンドの面々がカヴァーした企画盤。ジャケットを漫画家の喜国雅彦が手がけているのも見逃せない。


内容 (「CDジャーナル・レビュー」より)

現在活躍しているジャパメタ系バンド、アウトレイジ、ココバット、ガーゴイルなどが、80年代のジャパメタの名曲をトリビュート。収録されているのは各バンドが自由に選んだ曲。それだけに代表的な曲からインディーズ盤だけに収録されていた曲まで、バラエティに富んでいる。個人的にはデッド・エンドが入っていたのには驚き。こんなに2バスの激しい「Replica」は初めて聴きました。それに和製様式美のテラ・ローザがメロデスにアレンジされているのにもビックリ。尊敬するバンドの曲を好き勝手に料理していて、本当に楽しそう。 (木戸美絵) --- 2000年08月号

「魂」というほどのインパクトは無くてそれぞれのバンドがアレンジをほどこして、いい形で表現している。といわれたいのかもしれないが、すべてのバンドがそうではなく明らかに演奏力やアレンジ、音質などにばらつきがあるところがもったいない。

JAPAMETALはさすが！ユースクエイクは選曲も演奏もかなりいけてます。ココバットは自らのアルバムの特典CDの音源だがこれまたナイス。じゃあほかのバンドが悪いのかというとそういうわけでもないのだが、企画としては悪くは無いので録音状況やちゃんとプロデュースする人間、あるいはディレクションが必要なのではないか。「面白いけどさあ」で終わるのはもったいないなあ。

ガーゴイルがデッドエンドを選んだのはやっぱり！というかはまりすぎ。
