CATHEDRALの1st。実に劇的な始まりである、それはカテドラルという森に入っていくが如きインストパートで幕をあける。重々しいスローリフは地獄の叫びのように唸り、的確なタイミングを捉えるドラミングは森を這う亡者のようであり、リードリアンのディストーションヴォイスは森へいざなう悪魔の声である。

しかし全体の雰囲気は、暗さと遅さだけを強調している訳ではない、曲ごとに甘美で叙情的なソロを奏でたり（特にcomiserating the celebration のソロは良すぎる。）曲の頭でフルートを使ってみたりとその工夫も実に楽しい、またリフも起伏に富んだ変化を見せるためいくら曲が長かろうと飽きさせる事がないのだ。

ここまでベタ褒めしたが、CATHEDRAL初心者には勧められるアルバムではない。この雰囲気はCATHEDRALにじっくりなれた頃味わうに限る（やはり２ndから入るのが一番いい）。

鋭く繊細でいて分厚い音に
地を這う怒号が絡む
ドライブには向かない
閉鎖した暗い部屋で一人聴くべし
蝋燭の火で湿ったグリム童話の様な
歌詞を噛み締めながらなら尚良し
世界観に陶酔
